just got our DVX today

we turned it on and the LCD screen is shaking black, you can't see anything (it's all black)

same through the eyepiece

we put in an old tape and can play back footage

the lens is open

thanks

nah nah dvxuser

i trust the guy that sold it to me

everything seems fine, the camera is mint

i know there's something i just gotta do to get it to work

I could be wrong, but I think the dvx has a button to let you turn off the LCD screen so that you can save battery but also access the buttons behind the screen. I haven't used a dvx in about year so i forget exactly how it's done. That could be the problem

is the screen backlight on? or is it just completely black and off? if you could post a picture or a short video clip, I could probably help you out. I'd contact the seller also and ask him about it in the meantime.

LCD and eyepiece show the same thing

when you press record, the only thing that changes is "pause" says "record"

I've never shot DVX before but on the HVX there is a black button on the back kinda near the battery that switches it for recording mode to playback mode. Look for it, could very well be your solution.

Good Luck!

Oh shit, looking at that pick I see that it says "close" on the screen. Your iris is all the way closed, open the aperture to fix that, or just turn on auto exposure.

yeah your aperture is closed. there should be a little scroll wheel somewhere on the cam to adjust that. Well im assuming the dvx has a scroll wheel for the iris like the hvx.

Just open your iris/aperture, its closed, as many people have said. If you can't figure that out maybe you shouldn't have gotten a camera that requires you to adjust it manually.
