Need Help Planning Rave!

Me and my buds are throwing a rave this summer before we go to college. We are in the process of planning it and need help. We have a location and are going to have people park in an empty lot and then bus people to the location. We are going to notify all the neighbors. We have a DJ lined up and are putting a dank playlist together. However we need help finding sound/lighting equipment for a reasonable price. We live in Connecticut and would rent for a day. NO we will NOT spend more than a grand simply because we don't have that kind of money. Looking for any advice on where to rent, price, or any other tips on how to throw a rave without it getting shut down by the popos.

good advice = K+

P.S. any advice on how to convince parents to leave for a day or two?

Well if your in CT too, I want to get down on this. hahah kidding. But that sounds dope if you pull it off.

well you wont really be able to just make them do it inconspicuously, and it also depends on your own situation. for example: my parents are building a cottage, so i used to suggest to them they should go up for a weekend, get out of town etc. they liked the idea and went up a lot last summer so it worked out well for me.

but you cant really just me like "heeeeey you guys should go to niagara falls for the weekend for no reason at all"

it probably wouldnt work.

make sure theres no normal lights, only blacklights and a big container of spiked punch with energy drinks mixed in to promote dancing

how much are you charging for tickets? i'm a promoter (or at least i used to be) so i kinda know what i'm talkin about

Best way to get cheap sound is to find a DJ with his own P.A. My buddy owns one, and we throw parties all the time. He's done a lot for free for the exposure and what not. So as long as you can give up a DJ time slot, you could maybe get a free PA

disagree...if you plan in advance you can get together a dope light show/trippy art, a great location and make a lot of money. if you're trying to make any sort of profit you have to start promoting about 3 months in advance.

On the contrary, if your planning on a certain date for say your parents are leaving, and parents leaving is the key to this whole shenanigan, than that is also the destroyer of your plan. And if you plan 3 months before, people catch on, shut it down early. The trick is to already have all the stuff, but don't actually set the date until it's a guarentueed perfect date, which would most likely take place the day before. Mass text message= everyone comes, nobody will want to miss a rave

Im from ct also..in my experience..Loudness + Lots of people(most likely drunk or high) in a house in a residential area = most likely the cops will show up regardless..
happens to parties all the time here..idk where in ct you are/but this sounds baller anyways goodluck i hope you guys can do this haha

well maybe this kid isn't an idiot and trying to throw a fucking rave at his parent's house. this kid is obviously trying to be legit and throw it at a venue so in this case I would hit up a dope venue that everybody knows about charge 15$ tickets, get a good looking flyer and if you can get at least 100 people out you're gonna make 1500$ off them, of which some you will probably not be able to keep completely due to paying rent to the venue and paying off security. (some venues charge a certain amount per head out of your ticket revenue).

How do you unplan something in advance?

I'll second finding someone with their own equipment, you really shouldn't have much of a problem finding people willing to play and bring their own gear. Around here, djs often don't get paid much (or anything) because there are so many that want to play shows. It's unfortunate that people take advantage of it, but that's the way things are. On that same note, I would highly recommend getting more than one person spinning if you're going all night. That'd be tough for them and a real bummer for anyone who wasn't into what they were playing.

oh okay i misread the thread i thought he said he was trying to rent a place...

which you should dude there is so much money to be made if you do everything right.

Wait read the op.

You thinking of trying to hold a rave in your parents house?

Good thing it's not going to work anyway and will be nothing more than a small party. If you actually had a rave in your house, well just think about it.

The key to a good party is lots of alcohol and a respectable sound system. And enough people. The location is cool, but it won't make or break your party if you have the other things. I've had enough success throwing midsize parties at my house (60-80 kids). Just cover your bases and prepare for the worst just in case.
