Need feedback on iPhone app: a skiing social network

I'm an Engineer at Dartmouth College and in the process of developing an iPhone app for skiers (and snowboarders) that is pretty much a social network enabling people to meet up and ski together. It is targeted for skiers who want to make new friends and ski with them, advance their skills, or avoid skiing alone. I'm reaching out to you guys to get some feedback on 1) if you think it's a good idea or would download the app and 2) if you have any ideas for improvements. Here is a brief description of how the app will work:

1. You will set up a profile specifying:

1) Skier or Snowboarder

2) Park or Downhill

3) Male or Female

4) Age

5) Skill Level (detailed description of Pro, Advanced, Intermediate or Beginner depending on previous selections)

6) Home Mountain

7) Current Mountain

2. You will be able to view all the skiers at your home and current mountain and message them to meet up and ski together.

3. If you are traveling to a new mountain, you can set your "current mountain" and have the ability to reach out to people ahead of time.

Let me know what you guys think!

It's a cool idea. I think you would want to add some other features such as trail maps or recommended runs for certain skiing types that way it would appeal to people going to new mountains, but it could be a cool social network for individual mountains?

Honest tip- maybe same idea but for rides to the mountain/carpools?

Once people are on the hill they just wanna shred. BUt getting to the hill is where you don't wanna roll solo (gas, 4+ hrs alone in the car etc etc etc.)

There is a specific forum on NS that deals with this topic, and it's not too popular so I am not very confident that this idea will catch on

Sounds pretty good.

I wouldnt include the "skiing level" though. You shouldnt not ski with someone just because they arent as good/better than you. Plus, you would end up with a bunch of kinds saying "im the best skier on the mountain".

sounds cool...only problem i see is what someone said...the marketing..you need a lot of people on it to really be good

I just tried this "snocru", it looks really cool BUT 1) none of my friends have ever mentioned to use it 2) my home mountain isn't there. So yes, it's been done, but if you have the ability, make a better one!

There's gonna need to be a large increase in homosexuality for that to work.

Or alternatively pinknames doing 10ways

word of advice. that is an amazing idea. make it so that it can be used for all sports tho, like a general profile set up then more people will use it and it will be better for us skiers because more people will know of it. plus make it available to android and windows if you can.seriously this is a really good idea, with the proper marketing and a way of connecting to people who are actually on your mountain or at your skate park or whatever when you are is genius. WELL DONE!!!!!! i can't wait to use it, I've always needed something like this

I think it's a good idea but I agree with danbenson8 that you should include a bunch of different sports like skating, biking, ect.

maybe add some spot digger type function, could add descent spots/runs, tips on where to eat etc on the mountain instead of just about urban? not the social side but it would be cool to be all in one place, plus the layout of spot digger is pretty cool

thanks for the reply! I like the concept of including other sports, but I can't seem to think of any recreational sports that would benefit from this app...golf? squash? Skiing just seems like the ideal sport for this kind of thing because it isn't competitive and is fun regardless of who you're with.

There used to be. It used to cost money, too. And then NS stopped supporting it. And then it disappeared altogether.

@NS gods - I want my money back.
