just bought a pair of surface balance to use when i head up to bozeman. Im 6'1" and 160. I have a set of sth 13s and im considering getting another set for my new sticks. Plz help need advice

My Tyro Attack 13's are awesome on my pow sticks. Love them...never had an issue with them at all and have released at the perfect times never pre releases

I have Dukes on my Gotamas (aka Jesters) and they are solid, tho a little heavy. I have STH 13s on my salomon rckr2 100s, those have been great in terms of releasing when they should.

Do u think its worth it to pay more and upgrade to the 16s?

Unless you are at bobby brown's level, no. the STH 13s have a good screw pattern and the composite material is pretty strong. I ski pretty fast and weigh 165 and ski a 8, 9 or 10 DIN. never need a 13+ DIN unless you are pro level... my park skis (volkl steps, soon to be '17 volkl kinks) have the latest version of the griffon, and those are more than enough for me/ most people.

Second this statement. I went with a pair of Sth 14 2011 model for pow skis. While it's great burly binding it's over kill for my ability. If they made a 13 Sth when I was considering a dedicated pow ski I would of went 13.

I'm Just gonna have to drop in here and say I love the extra beef of the my sth2 16s. I'm glad I spent the extra 30 bucks to get the 16s. As I run them at 13 where as my fks are around 11-12. So I figured the 13 would work for me, I just went for it and got the 16s. Coming from fks there's quite a few people who have had to run a slightly higher din on the sth2. So I just have to kindly disagree to the "you only need a din of 13 if you're pro". As for me I wouldn't want to go any higher or any lower din. They're perfect for me and what i like to do

Totally fair. I just don't run my bindings higher than 10 since they have done their job at that DIN, and my knees are less than great haha

and for the extra 30 bucks, that is great value. I have a pair of look pivot 14s (un mounted at the time, i have yet to try these out )and my dukes are a 16, and those I run at a 10 (I could have gotten barons, but the pro-form was a $9 difference between the two... I paid the $9 for the matte black haha, not the DIN

And to add to my comment about only pro level needing a higher DIN:

If you plan on skiing AK or any sort of truly gnarly terrain, cranking your DIN to over 12 may be warranted, so it helps to have the right binding in those cases. but i doubt most on NS are going heli-skiing haha

I would say go with the sth2 16s if they are a very slim difference in price, otherwise you should be fine with the 13s. I have pivot 14s and ride like an 8.5 din, but they were cheaper than the 12s so I might as well have bought them. I personally love my pivots 14s, as well as my attack 13s (not quite as much), but I've heard sth2 13/16s are great. I would get fks/pivots for a pow skithough because of weight and difficult step in/step out.
