Need advice...

The scoop:

-I live in the east

-I'm a triple certified ski/snowboard/telemark instructor

-I want to work/ski in colorado (keystone/breck/copper) over winter break.

The problem:

-I'm not sure whether they'll hire me for only a month.

SO:

-Should I still go after the instructor job?

-should i settle for a food service job or something?

-should I just suck it up, buy an epic pass and find a couch to rent?

-What's the best way to make this happen???????

Thanks guys, karma for suggestions/thoughts from locals.

SPARKNOTES: What's the best way to ski for a month in colorado?

apply to one of the aspen/snowmass mtns. they have a Peak Part Time position for instructing and you just have to get 100hours and they'd probably like to have a tele instructor.

email breck or keystone, they have jobs for the holiday month called holiday help, basically just a month of work

I'm a ski instructor at Keystone. We aren't getting a lot of the Kiwi's and Aussies back so they will most likely be hiring. I can talk to some supervisors for you if you would like.

i know vail resorts over-hired instructors last year and had to lay off a bunch of part timers midway through the season so i dont know what the deal with part-timing is gonna be this year, esp if youre just coming in for a minute

Thanks a lot guys. i'm giving the resorts some calls today to get the scoop for each place. would living near snowmass be less exciting and more expensive than ketstone or breck? it seemed pretty isolated.

should i find somebody with a room for rent or rent employee housing?

go for employee housing at snowmass or look for a place in Basalt, a nearby town that is muuuuuch cheaper than Snowmass/Aspen.

i should clarify that i'm not a level III. i'm level 1 in all three disciplines.

i made some calls and it sounds like employee housing is only for full time seasonal workers. also both vail resorts and aspen resorts won't be posting jobs until end of november.

if i can't even apply for the job until december 1st (or sometime around there), and plan on flying out there by the 26th or something that would mean i'd have like a weeks notice max to find housing and buy plane tickets (which will be more expensive by then) once i hear back about the job. this is bullshit.

i think i'm going to go ahead and buy plane tickets and find a place to stay. worst case scenario i don't get the job and ski for a week or something out there.

anybody got a couch/room for rent in the frisco area? lol but seriously...

im always down for skiers to chill here if you need.

they rent out employee housing monthly sometimes too if theyre not super packed.

Thanks guys, i guess i need to wait for job postings to come up online. Also, it seems like there might be an opportunity to work in south lake tahoe as well. appreciate it!
