Need advice on ski choice for an "old man"

Looking to buy new skis - mainly looking for something fun to play on - use about 70% in the parks, 30% groomers and off-piste - no real powder.

I'm 183 and 200 lbs (in my upper body and legs, not my gut :-)). Speed on the groomers isn't my thing - I'm 46 and just playing with my kids - jumps, boxes, etc., but nothing really serious - not competing, and I'll never have my picture in a magazine - don't plan on impressing anyone other than myself.

Skiing on Bandit B1's now, and flex is OK, but going to swith to real twin tips to make switch a little easier. Thinking about something a little wider too, but don't need anything really fat.

Any advice on skis? Also on bindings - lifter or no lifter given my "specs"?

Thanks

hmm maybe a 179 K2 Public Enemy with some Look p12's

you might want something a bit longer though, depending on your ability

def not lifter-makes rails really hard.

you'll want a stiff twin. rossi scratch fs is good on groomers. movement joystick also.

head mojo 80 though is extremely good on piste-i'd go for that.

Ability is good outside the park - have been actively skiing xc and on the groomers for about 15 years. Inside the park I'm newer - this is only my second year.

Not afraid to try things though - which is why I'm looking for new gear - want the gear to help me do new things instead of having to do it in spite of the gear.

well i'd stil stay with something pretty stiff, so they still perform up to scratch oin the groomers..

the volkl karma / k2 PE / head mojo 80 / line chronic could be some to check out..

can you demo at your mountain?

Can't demo - I live in Norway, and the ability to demo is next to nothing.

I'll want to stay 180 or a little under - my daughter likes to ski in the woods (not like in the U.S. - denser forests-very tight turns, slow speed), so not having too long of skis is a real advantage.

And, pardon my lack of knowledge - on a stiffer ski, how will it impact jumping/park use? (I've used the search bar a lot, but it's hard to figure out since I'm far from the average size/type user ov the site.)

Thanks!

I like the Mojo 80 and 179 Public Enemy ideas, but if you do want to go a bit wider, maybe an Armada ARV? Softer, lighter, and fatter.

As for bindings...something with a DIN of 14...and I'd reccomend no lifters either.

Im gonna agree with Tmorry above with the ARV, its not the fatest ski around but it sounds good enough for you as in stiffness and specs. If you going to be in the woods with your daughter I would try to stay away from a really soft ski because it will chatter.

msp is a very good ski, a bit softer than you might want and also you said you wanted something 80 or smaller underfoot? maybe i misread that but it seems to me like your practically spelling out you want mojo 80...its a great ski and head is a great company

ahhh 180 in length or a little under yeah my bad -- check out public enemy like the first guy said, also chronic, head mojo 80, scratch FS, Foil would also be a sweet choice that is a really awesome ski i loved it, also volkl karma for the stiffer plus extra bling option but no doubt a GREAT ski

I think the 179 PE is probably ur best choice, because its the best all around, but I have seen a lot of older guys on pocket rockets so maybe look into that

I think the 179 PE would be great. 85 underfoot, full on twin, stable on the groomers, and if mounted right, pretty sick in the park

I think that you should look into the

-176 Head Mojo 90 (89 underfoot)

and the

-177 Volkl Karma (87 underfoot)

-179 K2 Public enemy would be a good choice, but at 200 pounds you might out ski it once you get better.

Both the Mojo and the Karma are on the stiff side- the Mojo's should be a little bit stiffer. This is a good thing since you weigh 200 pounds. With your weight you shouldn't have a problem flexing them and getting them to turn in tight trees. Don't get lifted bindings because they will make park skiing harder.

181 cm head mojos, theyre stiffer for biggier people like me, have lots of pop ans ski awesome, hold an edge very well to

get some volkl karmas in like a 177 such a sick all around ski and decent in the trees...but what u should really look at is the High Society FR 179...amazing in the trees and sick in the park very light and stable. www.highsocietyfreeride.com

Gotta say I'm seriously impressed with the feedback - wasn't sure what I'd get since this forum can be pretty tough.....

Most everyone points to the same skis, with a few wildcards. I'll do some searchbar work and then see what I can find in the shops here.

Thanks for the help, and keep up the inspiration on the slopes!

^^ im also astounded as to how much newschoolers has changed.

pretty much every ski mentioned here will work for you - just keep an eye out for deals

The MSPs are really stiff and the MSP super models are even stiffer....Id go with the MSPs if I were you.

are they pretty stiff? ive never ridden them just usually go off of what i hear and for some reason my memory told me they were soft, but i also ganj it alot so my memory is really hazy haha so i wouldnt be surprised at all if im completely wrong

PS, i think that is so rad that you support your kids and enjoy the rails and boxes and parks etc. When i used to be supported by family for skiing, it was really frowned upon on me at first.

when i tried the pes i found them a great almt ski and real good in the park too. They were a lil stiff for me but with your "specs" the 179 would probly be perfect

I think its sick when parents take an interest in the sport. i know alot of parents who go crazy over soccer and baseball, but then they know nothing about skiing or skateboarding. The supports cool cause u wont always have friends to ride with all the time

I ski mojo 80's and love them, but you may want to go a bit wider. you won't think so now, but after you buy them, you may regret it. My top two recommendations are the Mojo 90, and the Volkl Karma.

Salomon foil might work. Or Line mothership flights if u like a little wider ski 97 underfoot. I ride 183 4frnt stl's they are fat enough to handle some pow and they ski great in the park.
