Need a traveling partner from FL to Northeast

So I need to get the word out quickly. On the 17th/18th I'll be traveling from Miami to east Pennsylvania...but I won't be driving. I'm taking the autotrain, which travels from Sanford, FL to Lorton, VA. On this train, I'm not trying to be uncomfortable for 17.5 hours, so I want to get a room...but the only way I can do that is if I split it with someone. Rooms have two reclining seats that turn into beds (close enough). Food and all those other amenities are supplied. I'll give actual details if there's interest. If said traveler is between Miami and Sanford I'll happily pick you up...maybe even go out of the way. And from VA I'll be driving to Allentown. We can work out something depending on where you need to be.

Per person it will be about 270 dollars.

I know I probably won't get any newschoolers, but if you guys have friends down here in FL, please please please let them know!

I'm a really quiet kid. Keep to myself. I'll even buy you lunch on the way from VA wherever you want.

I just really want a room haha.

ok you came to the right place.

In august of this year I took the autotrain from Virginia to FL. Yes a room would be awesome but I just had a normal seat and I survived without issue. First of all they don't search you AT ALL. They have a dog that sniffs every car (you give them your keys beforehand) but not the individual passengers. I had a least an 8th and my flask full of Jim Beam in my backpack and all was good. Make sure you bring your own booze because its mad expensive at their bar and they close at 11pm. They had a smoking car which was full of black people and my one-hitter made me a ton of friends. All you need is a movie or two, a fully charged ipod and maybe some tylenol pms and it's not bad at all. You can even move around because they don't check your ticket after you board.

Seriously its 17 hours but it's not as bad as you think.

$270 to travel ~900 miles seems like way more money than gas, unless you drive a hummer. Just saying. Although I guess not everyone likes to drive.

yeah I've driven 12 hours straight by myself... with only 1 CD on repeat. fuck.

it was alright, kind of fun for a while, but I'm not sure how many more hours I could have tacked onto there.

How old are you? My guess is not of age to drive.

First, Miami to PA is about 400 miles more than your ~900. I drive a WRX, which takes 93 octane gas. I should get somewhere around 350-360 on a tank each time. Whenever I fill up an empty tank, it ranges, depending on the cost of gas, but is usually between 50-60. Now when we do the math, it'll come out to around 220 for gas. Ok, but then I've gotta eat, right? 20 hours. I'll stop probably three times to satisfy my hunger. Maybe about 10 dollars per stop. That another 30 dollars. So it'll be somewhere around 250 if I drive.

I don't feel like driving 20 hours.

I feel like taking the train.

thats some pretty cheap gas youre getting. I get regular and a fillup costs around 65-70 @ 3.85 (from empty-full).

Or maybe its because I live in NY?

$3.85 seems pretty cheap. Maybe I just haven't paid attention to gas in a while, but I was consistently paying $4.40 for 93 for a while where I live. Also, if you're paying 70 for a full tank at 3.85, you probably have roughly an 18-19 gallon tank vs his 16 gallon tank. It has nothing to do with living in New York.

train sucks man, first hand experience-trust me

Me and my gf 2 winters ago drove from north of NYC to Miami, we left at around 8:30-9:00 stopped in Savannah GA to meet up with some friends, we were there under 12 hours, (took about 11 hours to get there) hung out for the day left late in the afternoon and were in Miami by like 4 in the morning. People who say 24 hours to Miami supper overestimate. If your not to deep into PA you could easily do it in 18h if not less. Why not just fly you could def get a flight for cheaper than 270? could be for the life exp but i wouldn't recommend taking a train

This isn't the first time I've made the drive. I've done it four times round trip already, three of which I drove half way for. Usually it's 10 hours a day, stop in NC at my brother's friend's place for the night. The problem this time is that I'd be driving alone which sucks, and my brother's friends are up north for the holidays, so I'd have to pay to stay somewhere for the night if I chose to.

Also, once again, I can't fly because I can't fit my car on an airplane.

gonna be shitty, but just do it at once.

I had to make 6 or 8, ten hour drives this past summer and you just gotta tank through it.

Drive as far as you can without stopping, because any time you stop is just more time it will take to get home.

And NPR radio will be your friend. Odd how listening to boring but interesting shit makes the time fly by.

no but ill be damned if i dont do my best. for what i cant fit ill make up in arsehole titillation

fuck trains, I'd drive it. I've driven from MA to Colorado four times, twice solo, and 36 hours straight once. It's really not that bad especially if you're in a WRX

I can't speak for WRXs, because I've never driven one, but anything longer than about 2 hours in my STI makes me want to shoot myself. They are not comfortable cars to drive for long distances.

And again, this.

Subarus are far from luxury people. They're fun to just drive around as your DD, but once you're taking 4+ hour trips with them, you're fucked.

I've driven from Denver to LA in one trip once. Your gas argument almost makes sense, but it also assumes that you won't need to eat on the train? For it to take 20 hours, you would have to average 45mph over the 900 miles. That seems unrealistic. Even adding in breaks you could do it in 14 hours easily.

I just like to drive I guess.

if it makes you feel better

I had to drive all alone in a 2001 honda oddyssey with only the radio for all my trips going from maryland to ohio

Read.

In OP I said food was supplied. With the train ticket, you get fed meals.

In the post you quoted I said the trip was 1,300 miles. 400 more than your 900.

I've done the exact drive many times. I know what I'm talking about. It would be impossible to make the trip with breaks in 14 hours. Actually impossible.

I live just outside of Tampa. I am honestly a serious candidate for this. I was thinking about visiting my family in phillipsburg nj. How far would you say that is from allentown?

I will probably pm you soon

train rides really are not all that bad, iv travelled all over europe in a train multiple days spent sitting in a train. you can get up move around a bit, i did push ups and shit to kinda loose some energy. met some fine ass ladies along the way as well.

way better than driving that distance.

Be careful, I've taken the train long distances a few times, and there have been drug dogs that come on and walk through at random stops.

Fair warning.
