Hey guys, I'm really thinking about longboarding this summer and have only ridden one, it was real fun, but i totally forget the name/brand of board.

i'm 5'10, 150 lbs.

I'm looking for a board to carve hills, and bomb a bit when i get better, not sure how fast is bombing a hill but either way it sounds fun

I'm just looking to get into the whole scene, and its real sweet from what i've seen from friends and such

Can i have some tips on buying boards? What size, flex, wheels and such.

Thanks

BTW, my budget is like 100 - 200 max.

i just got the biggest board i could find so it was the sector 9 bomb hills board and it works im like 5'6'' 130lbs ...whatever works

If you want a top of the line board, get a loaded or bustin, but if you want a good board to start out with get a sector 9 or an arbor longboard. Originalskateboards.com has some good boards too. Just browse through those brands and see what you can find.

i think the brand ryno likes is kracked skull?

not sure, but the brand he reps people always say good things about

bustin definitely makes amazing boards but they arent made for what this kid wants. bustin makes more cruising/carving boards for commuting and just pushing around. the closest to what this kid wants would be the complex, but it is still not really oriented towards that type of riding.

Well i say you can... lol yeah there good price point boards..... but like ^^ they said up there... bustin boards are frinkin amazing.. my room mate rides one.. and there super nice.. and all hand painted... custom to your likeing.. and its only like 30-40 bucks more then a sector nine setup...

I got a Landy Evo 2008 (off this site actually), I love it! Its a drop deck, so its not completely flat, it drops down about 3 inches or so. I have never riden one before but I started off with my friends on some small hills and did what I thought was a bomb drop, we were going about 40 or so. there was no wobble or anything. I tried my friends deck, im not sure what they have but it was all flat and it wobbled a lot more. i would recommend getting the board i have, i love it! I have Abec11 gumballs which are really nice wheels too.

yeah, def better than a S9 but as i said above, not really what this kid is looking for.

dont get me wrong, i ride a bustin spliff and it is my favorite board, but it isnt all that amazing at high speed. it does carve like no other though

i have a bustin spliff too and love it, but i have ridden my friends sector nine and arbors and they still ride really really well

krackedskulls is the way to go for you.

there one of the cheapest boards so they wont break the bank.

I have a kracked skulls scimitar 42 inches with randells 180 trucks and gumball wheels

out of all my friends boards i can say my board is the most fun to ride

it turns like no other and its a drop deck so its relatively stable.

its great for carving and i have gone 45+ on it bombing hills

and for only 150 bucks you cant go wrong

I agree. Get the 46 inch scimitar with lemon Big Zigs ore gumballs. Bigger wheels are better. Don't bother with the upgraded bearings.

Kracked skulls is the best value in the industry.

agreed. i'd say go with lime zigs though, because they're grippier, and maybe a 42 because it'll be lighter and a little stiffer, not so floppy, which will be nice if you want to go faster. plus if you want a discount, type in mongoose when you order from the website, 5% off if you want.

if you can afford it get a loaded dervish. probably the best all around board.if you want a straight hill board go for the evo or one of landyatchz DH boards. if you want a cruising/ carver go for loaded pintail. or if your like me and dont want to drop the 280 on a dervish then go for never summer hiest; i payed 170 for mine off ebay.its an ill board almostm same board as the dervish but with out the bamboo and its got more camber and concave.

I've longboarded for quite awhile now (6 years), and I would have to say you should start with a sector 9. I love their boards, they are reliable and preform great. To start with I would go with a board wide enough to fit your entire foot, and keep the trucks medium... i know people who started out riding with a wrench with them so that they could adjust on the fly... also start with fairly soft wheels cause you're not going to be wanting to slide right off the bat, especially if you're not going to be bombing hills for awhile... and also riding with other longboarders that are better than you will help you improve a ton. And wear a helmet if your doing gnarly shit!!!
Have fun man!

My friend and I have 2 different sector 9 bamboo boards, they are both sick. Mine is a little shorter, it carves super quick, and his is long and the deck is super flexy. Both are pretty much rock solid to like 40 mph. But if you're going faster than that you need some better shit.

i'm really looking at a kracked skulls board. but i have a few questions

Whats the difference between the M1 and the Scimitar boards?

Also, some of the suggested wheels are out of stock, such as the bigzigs. What wheels should i get and why. What does a wider/stiffer wheel do for longboarding? Where could i order these wheels if their out of stock on the kracked skulls website.

Also, what size KS board should i get. once again, im looking at learning to bomb hills and carve a bit down them, just general riding down hills for the most part. I've only ridden one longboard.

thats exactly what ive been trying to figure out, exept im 5' 9" 115. hope we got the answer sooooon!

once again. go for the never summer heist off ebay. i payed 170$ for mine i have not tried a kracked skulls but it seems like its going to be about the same price as the heist and a lot stiffer. the hiest will be a lot flexier and be better for carving. if you really want a hill bombing board then go for the evo or one of the landyatchz downhill boards. but if you want a well rounded board og for the hiest. if you have the money get the loaded bamboo dervish

im the same height and weight as you and i have a 42" kracked skulls scimitar....with 76mm gumballs and Randall II 180 trucks.....and i can carve it, and bomb on it.....rides like a snowboard and has good flex, also sits super low because its drop through which makes it stable and allows for easier pushing

all within your price range!

the difference is that the scimitar has deeper cut outs allowing for bigger wheels (like 76mm gumballs)...i think the M1 only allows flashbacks which are like 72mm...

...i like bigger wheels....better ride on sidewalks and generally pretty smooth...

....as for wheels, the softer the wheel the grippier, so for carving and bombing, gumballs are relatively soft have provid ea great smooth ride with good grip (so do big zigs)

.....all wheels with a square edge like the gumballs or big zigs are going to provide decent grip at speeds

Basically summed up all the good points!

It totally rides like a snowboard too and i love it

i have the kracked skull 46" too. with the green stricker wheels. super fun board. takes a beating better then my sector 9 did. i didnt bother to grip it. you dont really need to, plus i like to ride barefooted. the randal 180 trucks you can get with it are some of the most legit out there for long boarding. kinda wish i could have ridden the shorter one before buyin it to determine which i like more. but i still like the long length to walk around on it. plus you can get it as a blank deck to customize any way you want. i would go with this board especially since it is sooo inexpensive, you will not be able to find anything cheaper

btw... Just so some people aren't confused, I'd like to mention that I am in no way affiliated with Kracked Skulls longboards besides me just buying a board and being super stoked on it

s9 ive had a a few boards from them and they are so sick, i have ridden some landyatchz and other boards and what not and s9 has the best ride and very good. a great company to support in the longboarding world

that is like saying burton is a great company to support in the snowboarding world. they are a monster. if you want a good board at a good price, hit up sector 9. they def aren't a company that needs support though. if you want a really sick board and wanna support a smaller company, hit up neversummer, they are local to denver and make some really sweet boards. there are tons of other sweet small companies out there, i just threw that one out because i'm getting one this summer and they make them like 100 miles from where i am sitting.

run down on longboards: gayafter you buy that longboard make sure to have some sandals and some DMB to pump while you're cruising through the quad bro!

idiot

ha all the original videos are so much fun. i went to hs with the guys who own original and they are super nice guys. i might even work there putting together boards.

I started off on a sector 9, super soft easy to ride made me feel like a good rider.

Then I bough a Mercury green goblin. MUCH faster and better for carving down hills took me a whileto adjust to it but I love it.

you can go what 30 35 tops on a skateboard, so not that fast. skateboards and longboards have a different purpose, people get a long board if they dont want to do tricks and would like to cruise around or bomb hills, people buy a skate to do tricks, you fuckin faggot.

whats the difference in lengths, im about 5'6" and im looking at kracked skulls scimtar but im not set on it at all and i heard s9 was getting a new line out soon so some of their stuff might be cheap, also, im in the 50-150 price range so...

the difference in lengths range between 46 and 38 in. for the scimitar, so like if you want a huge board that's mainly for cruising/boardwalking/dancing i'd go with the 46, but it'll be a lot more flexy than the 38 incher, which is a lot better for freeriding and just all arounding.

if i were you at 5'6" i'd probably go with a 42 inch, so you could do pretty much whatever you want on the board, and it would still be way cheaper than a sector nine, and they come with better wheels and trucks.

cuz most sector 9s run around 200, but you could get a kracked skulls for like 120 which is a way better setup, and if you type in mongoose for the product code, and you get 5% off, making it even cheaper.

regardless of the board you go with though, longboarding is sick, and i hope you get into it

sector 9 is where its at. check out there site. u should start out with a smaller board if u dnt skate that much

i'd probably go with the scimitar because its harder to get wheel bite with, but for wheels i'd go with lime big-zigs because they'd handle rough pavement pretty well and be pretty versatile in general.

if your not set on kracked skulls yet look legendary! they make such dank stuff, check my thread on them and also thier site for more info
