Napster questiones

Well first off, fuck Napster and their false advertising (the one that says it costs $10,000 to fill and iPod). I use iTunes and I either buy and borrow and import my music. But then I figured, fuck Napster. Does it work to subscribe to Napster for a month, download a bunch of music off of it, burn that music onto cds, quit subscribing, then import that music onto iTunes?

i dont think it works. my friend had that idea, downloaded a bunch of music then the day his month subscription ended none of his music worked. if you can get past the copy protection and license though, should work.

It does work, but you get sub-par quality recordings...even the original wmv's sound like shit if you have some high end stereo stuff. Drums sound like splashing symbols...and that's the most annoying part.

It use to be that there was a winamp plugin that'd reroute the audio to wav format, but they pulled it off their site. Then, someone figured out a hack to get it through another mp3 player software, but only with certain versions. About a week later all updates and licensing checks killed the export to wav functions...now you're SOL.

p.s. this was when Napster to go was first out and had a free 14 day trial period.

there is a DRM hack out there, but i've heard that it's a bit tricky and I haven't had time to look into it personally. back when i had the napster to go thing, i just used tunebite to rerecord a wma as an mp3 or ogg as it played. it runs in the background and automatically picks up any drm protected wma file in media player 10. you just have to actually listen to the music fully to get the mp3.

no i'm not talking about that one, i'm saying there was an actual exploit that someone found in the DRM encryption and was able to completely unlock the files without rerecording them. all the winamp plugin did was rerip them as it played just like tunebite now does. you can also use other sound output recorders, it's just that tunebite is convenient because it's automatic. i'll look for a link...
