So I went outside to do some astronomy photography tonight and I came across an issue! I googled it and nothing solved my problem, so I'm turning to the professionals. Canon T3i's have 3x-10x digital zoom built into the body. I know you can turn it on during video, but when I was snapin' pictures, I would hit the display button (I'm in manual mood) and I would use the (+)/(-) buttons to zoom in/out of the 3x-10x. Now it displayed 10x on the LCD screen before I took the picture but when I took the picture, it went back to the original picture without the digital zoom. So after a very descriptive explanation.. My question is... How do you take photos with the digital display? Or can you even? Does it have to be done in post?

Much love to the professional that answers (+k)

What you're experiencing is simply the magnification of the live view. You can zoom in 5x/10x to focus more accurately. Digital zoom is useless and is better done in post.

I'm not very familiar with digital zoom on DSLR's (I doubt anyone is), because it's simply useless. Just shoot normally and crop in post.
