My X Games rant

i'm glad there are some pissed off skiers on NS so far who think X Games has been as corny as i think it has been.

so here's my take on it:

the snowboard announcers make me want to puke. they're like, "Keir Dillon was at least 17 feet out, right?!" and then you see on the replay that Keir was actually like four feet higher than the cameraman's head who's standing on the deck of the pipe.

add that up, dipshits. maybe, uhhh, ten feet out?!

and, yes, big air is fuckin lame as hell. i only have props for Bushfield: at least he's trying something ridiculously difficult. and at least Jacob Wester is doing a new grab.

but if i see another switch, un-corked spin, i'll be even more depressed. whatever happened to progressing the sport: trying something new, exciting, unpredictable, spontaneous, original?!

seeing a cab 10 at a big air event is about as new as seeing a double twister spread from mogul skiing eight years ago.

skiers have been throwing absolutely perfect cab 10s for over three years now: go back to the 2003 US Open, and Mickael won it with the same trick. uhhh ... seen that already?! and go back to 2002, and Tanner took second to CR in the US Open big air with a cab rodeo 10, if my memory serves me correctly.

even though Bushfield's switch double back is lacking style and perfection - and same with Mike Wilson's double underflip - can't anybody else try to do something fucking rare, rather than something safe and something that's been done thousands of times like a cab 10?

and i don't give a shit how long any of them held their grab either. if you're doing a boring, predictable trick that's already been done a thousand times, i don't get excited. it's like taking a triple sow cow in figure skating and then saying, uhhhh, i think maybe i should now do my triple sow cow with even more style 'cause i can't think of anything else better. FUCKING LAME!

remember when X games was exciting? Candide and CR going retardedly high three years ago in pipe, making snowboarders take a second look at their own amplitude? and then two years ago with Crichton and Dumont taking it up a level with alley-oop flat 5s and cork 5s in the pipe that we're ridiculously huge during primetime SportCenter? that's when shit impressed me.

all i can say is that i hope skiers throw down in pipe tomorrow night, 'cause so far i've been really bummed ... and I have faith that Dumont, Tanner and Candide will.

and if another snowboard announcer sounds like he's faking an orgasm like a bad pornstar the next time we see anti autti throw back-to-back 1080s in the pipe, i'm just going to laugh. then i'm going to go to Taco Bell and buy a burrito because i've seen so many commercials for them throughout X Games broadcasting:

i guess that's all it is anyway; just another vehicle for marketing products to the masses without enough substance to get me pumped up about the actual sports.

Don't blame the riders. Its completely ESPN's fault for deciding to fundamentally alter the competition. "Best Trick" is so different from slopestyle that I'm beginning to think nobody at ESPN actually knows anything about snow sports. I mean, this literally would not happen in any other sport. What they did is like going up to the teams in the Superbowl five minutes before the game and telling them that they are not allowed to pass the ball.

The riders who did 1080s were just doing what they had to to win. It was refreshing to see some people going against the grain, but you can't really blame the guys who did cab 10s, especially with that much money up for grabs.

alright, its time to stop complaining about x games riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....................................NOW.

if you can't blame the riders for being responsible for the way they're progressing the sport, then who do you blame? a jump is a jump. you can do different tricks off it than cab 10s. ESPN didn't make the riders all do cab 10s.

no sorry i dont think so, what pisses me off is why did they go ahead and do the big air, they waited for the motocross guys to do it that night, why couldnt they have waited for slopestyle

Moto X.... since when does this have anything to do with Winter Sports?

And this snub of skiing by the X games, is just as bad as having snowboard halfpipe as an Olympic Sport. What a joke. It is all about ratings and money. Makes me pretty pissed off.

A Big Air comp has very little, if anything, to do with progressing the sport. Look at all of this year's movies. How many cab 10s do you see?

Yes, you can do different tricks, and no, ESPN didn't make them do anything, but its a competition. Its about doing what you need to do to win, not about impressing newschoolers dot com. Like somebody else said, its basically a game of P-I-G. You find out what the guy on top is doing, and you do it better than him, if you want to win.

The reason I believe ESPN really screwed the pooch here is because the last jump was going to be a cab 10 huckfest no matter what. With a full slopestyle though, there was so much else to the course that it would have been a lot more varied and fun to watch. ESPN decided to remove all that and leave only the cab 10 huckfest.

I whole heartedly agree that yesterday's comp was gayer than two boys on a bullet bike with their shirts off. While the cab 10 was horribly played... Candide's cab underflip 10 was beautiful.

Judging is horribly wack in the X-games. I also agree that moto-x has no place in the winter x-games... its more of a novelty than anything... I got so sick of seeing a backflip no hander.. BOOOORRRRRIIINNNNGGGGG.

pro skiing doesnt suck at all right now there is progresion happening everywhere the X-Games just sucked.

basically what they did was tell the 2 teams at the world series ummm yeah guys instead of playing a game today were just gonna have a homerun derby k dudes??

then all the athletes complained, why not man why cant we play??

oh um well the weathers bad and the mud is slow.

why cant you just push it back to tommorrow?

well uh we just cant do that.

but you guys pushed novelty unicycling back a day!

yehhhh well the ratings are better for novelty unicycling guys sorry about that just gonna have to deal with it its what the public wants.

oh and another point you were talking about progression big air is SHIT for progression thats why guys like pollard dont compete
