My Website.. ideas, thoughts?

Just tweaked my website, decided to make it simple and clean, as before it felt very cluttered and unorganized.

This website offers me a place to dump videos, photos, and adventures while also promoting myself to potential clients.

Was curious what my fellow NS's thought about it? I'm still working on my gallery, I want to choose 10-20 or so of my best shots, etc.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! +K

Thanks guys!

Yo man, looking good. But, are you trying to have the blog-ish things on the side? IMO i would take out the calendar and achieves. If you want a blog-ish type page, you should make it separate from your actual site, know what im saying? Killing it tho.

looks great man, just one thing - for being a dude who loves winter i hope you know your last name means summer in polish. haha just letting you know

also i just moved out by targhee - if youre ever out there, hit me up and we'll shoot/ride

cheers

Are you aiming for a website or a blog? Right now it is setup as a blog, based on your title tag you want it to be a website. I would make it a website that contains a blog. You are using WordPress so you can easily change things around. You want to build a hierarchy for the site and all of its pages, that way it is easy to navigate and offers up good meta data.

Homepage - You want this to be a landing page that loads fast. Having the blog entries here is going to hurt that. I would remove the blog entries and the calendar, archives, and tags widgets on the right hand side, as Evan said. Have the homepage be a stand alone page, people land there, and then go explore the other features of your site. There are some free WordPress widgets available that can help you spice up the homepage. One thing you can do is have a blurb from you latest blog entry be displayed on the homepage.

Blog - Create a new page/subpages for this and add "Blog" to your menu buttons up top. So it will be "Home" "About" "Contact" "Gallery" "Blog". Also, tag the shit out of your entries with anything that might relate to the entry. Think of any variations of a word when tagging, so "ski" "skiing" "skier" "mountain" "mountains". Get as descriptive as possible, it will help people find it. I would also make sure the names of my blog entries are unique as possible. As an example, you have "Thanksgiving Weekend" as a title, which also becomes the URL for the entry. "Thanksgiving Weekend 2012" will help with hierarchy and searchability.

I would use the free Google Webmaster tools, that way you can submit the website to be crawled so people can find it: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1352276

Another thing you probably want to do is update your meta data a bit. Right now your title tag is "Jeremy Lato Media". I would get more descriptive because this is important for search/display. Figure out what exactly you are trying to promote and add it. So something like "Jeremy Lato Media - Ski Photography & Videography" is better suited and will help with search. You probably will also want to add the description meta tag as well for each of the pages. This is a good start for that information: http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2067564/How-To-Use-HTML-Meta-Tags

I may have went a bit overboard for what you are trying to do but if you get the hierarchy squared away it will save you headaches later. You chose a nice clean look and the content is great, keep up the good work!

Clean page for sure, love the top photo with the signature. BUT. get rid of the calendar, change the font. The o´s look like zeros and the overall look of the font looks like something my maths teacher chose in word to change the apperance of the fourth task in an exam. If you really are going to go for the "tight and elegant" look you should choose a font that is narrower.

Word up! THANKS GUYS!

Really loving the support and info, this is my first website and I'm just trying to figure it all out so I truly appreciate all the feedback.

Thanks again, I love hearing opinions and ideas, comments, etc. from an outside perspective it's really helping me put this site in the right focus!

Damn dood I'm half polish and half kiwi, I think I found out once before my last name meant summer in polish but I truly LOVE winter haha! Funny shit!

YAA man I'll be out and about traveling around chasing the powda so if I'm in your area I'll def hit you up!

Epic info man! I had no idea about half that shit!

I'm not exactly sure what my main focus is at the moment, blog or website.. I was really inspired by Ian Provos website..

So I made it fairly similar, but I understand what you are saying that makes a lot of sense! Thanks very much for the great insight!

try to get more professional shots up there. not saying your work isnt professional meaning modeling shots, product shots, sports, lifestyle, etc. you gotta mix it up and show your versatility. especially if youre putting this site on a card.

also the site is very blank. there is being clean and there is being boring. play around with applying different textures or shading to the contents (background, body background, title bar, etc)

if you want to go for the clean grey and white look just study the shit out of the apple website.

if i want to incorporate shadows in something I'm designing i look at stuff like that for ideas.

its a good start dude just keep at it.

a true artist is one who never thinks his work is finished.*

*someone famous said that. not me.

Thanks! Can never stop I never feel finished, I'm sure you know the feeling it seems to be a never ending process!
