just smashed my thumb on a summer setup, feels like a regular skier thumb should i go to a doctor

If you can barely move it, it's possible it could be broken. But if you have all or most movement it's just sprained.

I hate when people say this. Just because you can move it doesn't mean its not broken. If you live in Canada OP then just go get an xray its free. If you don't wait a couple days and then see how the pain is

If you can't lift a large glass of water, see a doctor. If it just hurts, wait a day.

Only you know your body and pain; if you can't move it and it hurts bad after a few hours there's no harm in getting it checked out. Heal up my man

Were going to need more information before we can give you better advice OP. It's possible you broke the part of the thumb were the ligament attaches. That's normally referred to as skiers thumb and I have a thread about that if you wanna see. If the swelling dosent go down then yea go see a doctor, it's not worth losing permanent mobility in your thumb.

If you can still move it, it may be broken actually. I broke my big toe and had almost full movement to it back in february

90% of the time, this is the case. It is rare that you will be able to move your thumb without excruciating pain.

Mr. B with the knowledge.

I mean avoid one quick hospital visit and then bam - reduced motion in your thumb for the rest of your life?

Depending on your health care coverage the cost / benefit analysis doesn't pan out even if the risk is low.

Yea since I don't live in Canada I just take like 30 super bright desk lamps and shine it on the backside of my hand and I can easily see the bones. Then you can tell if it's broken or not
