Not all companies that manufacture in China have durability problems. Not all companies that manufacture in Europe create more durable skis. But for the most part this is the case. Example would be how Volkl was moved Gotama production to China until they all started falling apart. They promptly moved production of the ski back to Europe. Some companies can do a great job with Chinese manufacturing (AKA K2). But there are also a bunch of companies that cut corners to get a cheaper ski out increasing their product margin. Quality skis can come out of china, but there is definitely a load of crap coming out of there at the same time. About 5 years ago working as a shop tech, one of these smaller chinese made companies brought us all of their skis straight from the factory to machine them because they looked awful. Seeing a lot of them being delaminated out of the box, inconsistent flex, almost no flat bases, sidewalls coming apart, edge problems, and more, it was a nightmare. This is when the skis were brand new. This company is still in business by some miracle, and the quality is still very poor from what i have seen. I have seen similar problems in other chinese made brands. In my experience, these problems have come hand in hand with chinese production, or it may be better said cheap production. Maybe i've just seen a strange phenomenon in skis over the past 6 years in the shop, but i really doubt that is the case.
