My photography: tell me what you think

I really like some of yours. I'm so jealous that you got to go to Europe... I would probably end up filling my memory card 4 times over if I got to go where you did.
Nice job on some of them though-- a lot of it will come in time with practice and experimentation. You're off to a really good start, and if you can, take a photo class at your high school/college institution and get to know your teacher/prof and ask them to critique your work (It'll help tremendously). Keep it up!

Thanks! Don't forget to look through the other pages (navigate at the bottom of the page) and let me know what you guys think. I'm in a photo class at ohio state right now, and I'm working on improving my work, if you see anything you don't like, or think could be improved, let me know.

love the pool shots, and the first two in the stream... just added you as a contact. good shit.

Solid stuff, also added you as a contact! And I added you too, Elife! Though I don't really update my flickr much

the best photo is the front door, in my opinion, because with the title it add a sense of irony that i think is wonderful, all the images are great, but this one speaks more because of the title that accompanies it

I really REALLY hate titling any of my images, but for that one I just loled cause it was kinda sad and funny at the same time. Thanks though.

Sick shots man, stay away from photoshop and photomatix, they just kill your photos
1) Levels correction for good exposure (darks and lights)
2) Curves for contrast
3) Color balancing for further white balance tweaks
4) Black and white conversion
5) Unsharp Mask for further sharpening (not always necessary)
6) Cropping
7) Removing unwanted objects (fat man in background, zits, dust spots, etc.)
8) Printing
9) That's it, period, end of discussion.
but if you dont use it, then dont mind that, i just noticed a few photos what looked like they had halos and shit.

Shots are dope, keep it up :D

Photoshop kills photos .... ??!
I'd say going apeshit with sliders in PS kills photos, but to tell someone to stay away from PS altogether?! Doesn't seem like the best advice to give an aspiring photographer!
I'd say get comfortable what adjustments do what in Photoshop, or Lightroom, or Aperture, recognize that minor adjustments can have a major impact on the overall image, and don't be afraid to experiment with different 'looks'!

I'd go back into the place in the first one on the first page and shoot a ton more. Be the kid carrying a camera on a tripod throughout the library and annoying everybody. That place looks sick and you could get some awesome shots there.

Thanks guys! I'm glad someone bumped this back up for me haha, I almost forgot. Anyway, anyone who checked out my photos before should check again--I just went to Yellow Springs Ohio and got some shots out there of Antioch College (which is abandoned) as well as the gorge in John Bryan State Park nearby. More to come!

really really liked your stuff. would consolidate your page though to really hone in on your best stuff. ie. not as many shots of the preacher or things of the same subject matter. it'll show off your diversified eye i think.

but really not meant to criticize just a suggestion

Yeah, I was thinking about that... The only way I know of that I can reorganize my stuff is to change the dates on things, but I dunno if I really want to do that. Any suggestions?

i hear you i wish they'd allow some custom ordering but i guess i understand why they don't

I would just delete some of the stuff that may not be up to snuff with the rest, and if you wanna throw it back on later go for it. like on mine i have stuff from italy i put up today still even though i shot it over a year ago. I wanted to put them up at the time, but i knew it would be overkill if i had 27000 shots of st. peters basilica.

again though your stuff is great so keep it up

I'm just using the kit lens that comes with the Rebel Xsi, no external flash or anything. I'd absolutely LOVE to have a new lens though... I'm in the market for one if you or anyone else knows of a gently used lens. Thanks for the compliments though!

Liking your shots of people but I'm not a huge fan of your skiing photos. Awkward angles are a no, I don't care what anyone else says I have yet to see and awkward angle photo that looks good. Try to encorporate (sp?) the entire feature, or at least try to show a degree of difficulty in the feature. Just having a small portion of a rail I find doesn't do the shot of the subject any justice. And remember the basic rule of composition, rule of thirds. I'll end on a positive note, your colours are spot on, keep on shooting.

Thanks. I know they're not the best compositionally, but they were fun and I wanted to post them up there. They're at weird angles cause I was standing at the end of the rail with my camera balanced on it and I took the pictures as I was jumping out of the way so I wouldn't be hit. Thanks for the advice though, I'll make sure to check out your photography soon.

Removing unwanted objects could be considered killing your photos too. Especially in journalism where that shit will get you fired real quick.
