My Local Shop

so a freeskiing shop opened up in my home town and we sorely needed it. they're a great shop and the people that run it are nice. about 4 months ago they said they would like to set me up with a sponsorship, and through them they would get me ski sponsorship, they knew my results at competitions and that i'm progressing fairly fast. but now they don't want to sponsor me and i sort of needed that sponsorship from them cause i need new pipe skis and a whole bunch of other shit for next year and with my yearly income of $0 i can't afford it. so i don't know if i should go bug them about it. or should i say fuck it, take my business elsewhere and not accept a sponsorship when they finally do come around?

dude you are missing the point of a sponsorship. the company or shop does not sponsor you because you are sick, they sponsor you because of what you can do for them. if they see it as you just wanting to get sponsored to get free stuff then why would they sponsor you? show them that you could help their new up-coming shop progress and become well-known and your sponsorship may come a lot quicker than you expect.

Find out who they know. Even if you don't get a shop sponsor, they might know some reps who you can meet with to get a company sponsor.

dude the economy sucks right now, and it's not exactly easy to open up a business. give them some time to get established. remember, they're helping you out. don't bitch to them about it because they don't have to do anything. i think it's pretty obvious what you should do, get a job and save up for new gear like the rest of us. don't worry about being sponsored. ski, have fun, and if it happens then it happens. hell you could even try getting a job at the shop working part time. i know a lot of kids that started that way and worked their way into a shop sponsorship and then went on from there.

how can you ski if your yearly income is 0$...?

or do your parents pay for it, in which case you should be set

the rents pay for travel, tickets and coaching and a little of equipment.

the thing is there not giving me much for free in the first bit i'm sponsored, depending if i go to bigger comps and bring in more business then they would give me free stuff but i would get a mad discount and some incentives.

my advice to you is just go in and make connections. The owner of a shop is a good person to know, even if you aren't necessarily sponsored by them. As it was said above, it is a pretty trying time in the economy; my local shop actually just went out of business, but give them some more time.

hahaha seriously man you dont deserve to get sponsored and i can see why they wouldn't from your attitude. even in your first post you contemplated waiting until they ask you and then you deny them, grow up fool

yeah well when your good at a sport a sport your parents are willing to help, i'd like to see a 16 year old pay for all of his own skiing expenses.

it probably comes to roughly 8 grand a season

my mom gives me $80 a season. Shes given me $80 for EVERY season I have skied.

Do you know how far $80 is going to get you in skiing?

yeah, i do, a third of ONE of my seasons. maybe if you did something with skiing other than just go to the hill and hang with your homies, which is fun don't get me wrong. at times i much rather be doing that than training, but the point is i take skiing seriously and the rents will help me out with that

All people are saying is it sounds like you expect all this shit to come to you, and if it doesn't you act pissed, and jilted. try and act a little more grateful for you bigger sponsorship(parents) and try and work hard and be grateful for whatever the shop can get you. they are not out to fuck you over.

Again, ski because you love it, not because you can get paid or hooked up. there is no money in skiing.

What was spent at the beginning of the season my season last year

skis 199

bindings-79

boots-150

mount-25

outerwear, goggles,maybe 150-200

Nightpass+ discount card=200

extra tickets=200

=under 1500

add in extra for gas(my hill is just about 100 miles round trip)

you are looking at maybe 4k a season. and that is being generous.

your 8 grand a season is ridiculous. super spoiled. it disgusts me. My parents paid for some of my equipment, but they drew a strict line on how much they were paying. the only thing they paid for entirely, was my pass and tickets, my skis, and my bindings/mount. also my outerwear, but that was bought for under 100 The rest i had pay part, or all. There is a reason that i wore a size small jacket last season. my parents wouldn't hand me a new jacket every season and i had better things to spend money on.

This year, i will be using the same 165cm skis. i spent the past school year under strict school regiment in order to have a pass bought for me, and i will be paying near 100% for gas.

am i complaining?

not at all. I am super fortunate that my parents will support me, financially, as much as they do. the fact that you are complaining over a stupid little "spancership" sickens me, especially when there are probably 100 kids on this site that work, and slay twice as hard at what they do.

450 seasons at C.O.P.

450 seasons at Canyon

700 -skis

300 -bindings

750 -team registration

300 -plus tickets at other hills

450 for team jacket and pants

180 for other outerwear

300 goggles, helmet and other stuff

1000 for hotels for competitions

500 for gas too comps

probably another 500 for gas to C.O.P. (300 km round trip, twice a week)

the list goes on............. and i paid for most of my skis, and one seasons

alright, i dont even post on here that much but its spoiled fucks like u that really piss me off, i work 5 days a week 8 hours a day all summer so i can pay for my shit in the winter. Im 16 years old as well and i will make about 6 grand this summer at work and guess what, when it comes to skiing expenses i pay for it all. I bought a pass, boots, skiis, saga and a jiberish all last season straight out of pocket as well as an 1700 dollar spring break trip to CO, i dont want to hear you wine about how u arent sponsored. If u want nice shit go out there and dedicate yourself to working hard so you CAN afford it and if u do love skiing enough thats what u would do. /rant

bhahahaha what a rich faggot..

My whole season cost less than you spent on skis.. but I guess when you're rich you can afford to be ignorant.

i tried to be helpful and for the most part polite when i posted, but come on kid. you're bringing the hate upon yourself. it also doesn't help that it's the middle of summer, but come on seriously.

um i know lots of people that pay for all their own expenses and it does not come to 8,000 that is ridiculous that ur parents shell out that much

ur parents are helping u out a lot mabeye u should show them some respect and call them parents not rents

FACT: there are at least 200 kids who work/slay harder then you do on this site for your age. Grow up be happy a company even gave you the time of day to consider sponsorship, you ski for the worst of reasons

yet another skier who has forgotton the reason he started skiing (fun) and has become obsessed with reaching the "holy grail" of sponsership

and also, i dont think a start up ski shop will want to pay ur 8,000 budget. i guess what everyone is trying to tell you is just have fun skiing and be happy u have it as good as u do with ur parents and dont sweat sponsership since u can afford skiing anyway

so i don't know if i should go bug them about it. or should i say fuck it, take my business elsewhere and not accept a sponsorship when they finally do come around?

with that attitude, you'll be lucky if you get sponsored at all. ever.

with my yearly income of $0 i can't afford it.

do something about it! get a job. there's still a good month and a half to earn some money. even at $8.00/hour for 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 6 weeks you'll earn just over $500 - enough for a pair of skis.

you can't just sit back and expect things to be given to you. do something to help yourself. even if it doesn't help you in the short term, the least it'll do is teach you some discipline.

are u saying u actually dont have a 8,000 ski budget and are trying to get sponsered and all that?

newschoolers isn't life so i'm quite fine with that. but i am mad at daddy for not letting me take the lambo to the corner store so i could i buy it. life is just so unfair

i'm just bored as fuck on a friday night and wish i was out with my homies.

i have been approached by the shop at a time but i'm unsure of going back there and talking business, and as for the 8oo budget, thats bull.

shiiiiiit son. if that's the primary motive for skiing then skiing will get dull reaaallll fast.

in the end... ski for fun. don't ski for the money, cause there ain't shit in the ski industry.

haha, you were either playing this as a joke the whole time, or you finally realized how much of a tool you were and came up with the excuse that you were messing around the whole time. I think the second one id most plausible.

i saw your videos and you suck at skiing, have fun getting sponsored, the only way you get sponsored would be if you gave a rep your 8,000, and even that wouldn't be a sponsorship cause you paid for it.
I cant believe you are asking people about what you should do because your local shop said they were going to sponsor and then didn't.
Do you think you should get sponsored cause you came in first in a rail jam at beginner level?
