My Knee.

So I know a lot of you have had knee problems, and I guess this can't really compare, but last week my knee had a severe cramp in it. Later in the week when that cramp would not come out, my knee began to swell to a softball size. On Halloween, I had it drained, approximately 75cc (milliliters) and all was well for about 10 hours. The next day, swelled up again and all the fluid returned, plus more. Today I went and got an MRI because now my knee is absolutely huge, even bigger than the first time and I get the results from that either tomorrow or the next day. So basically, I can't walk real well, (I have an extreme pimp limp), and I currently cannot ski. So, what it all comes down to is... I am absolutely miserable and the fate of my flambuoyant is undetermined, who knows if I'll be able to ski this season. I sure hope I can. My ARV's are sounding very sexy right about now. I don't know how you can do it dave, with 3 ACL tears, you're a saint. Thanks for listening/reading.

Cool Story Hansel.

And then I found $10.00 . . .

this is just me but is it called a bursa sac that is in your knee, cuz if so it sounds like you poped it

No photo's as of now. Sorry.

And thanks for the thought about the Bursa Sac bursting. I'll mention it to my doctor if he doesn't already know.

Hmmm yea man i have no idea. From what you said you werent doing anything to injure it per say, but all i can think of is that bursa sac. Knee problems suck

Yeah I have had meniscus problems in the past. No matter what problem knee`s may produce...not fun.Hope for the best for you man...

hey,

mos def not a doctor but reading your story reminded me somewhat of my knee a few seasons ago. i woke up one morning and was literally on the phone with the boys about building a kicker and when i stepped out of bed my knee felt stabbed then numb and then i watched it swell up to what looked like a softball hanging off the inside of my knee. i went to the er at mammoth(huge fucking mistake, they have been sued for operating on sprained ankles, no bs). after i got in to see the doc the nurse held my thigh and the doctor proceeded to grab my ankle and torque my leg laterally 4 or 5 times, after i literally shrieked like a bitch with a skinned knee, he exclaimed "well, usually i can get all 3 to break away clean after i do that!" He was referring of course to my MCL, ACL, and Meniscus. AFter hobble running out of there I received a second opinion from a top athletic doc in Salt lake and he basically informed me that what started as a medium tear in my MCL, was turned into 60 percent tear through everything in my knee across the board.

I've digressed. The utah doc basically explained how surgery and the cutting involved, although functional, removes the fine nerves in your tissues that assist muscle memory and provide a athlete's ability to perform at his/her highest level.

The fluid exists to protect your joints and is there for a reason and I'm not educated enough about the bursa sac to know anything that might help.

Moral of the story: always get outside opinions no matter what.

Even if your knee feels ok in a few weeks stay off of it for at least 30 percent longer.

After diagnosis and prognosis, seriously look in to physical therapy.

Let us know whats up when you find out. Best of luck and you'll be back on your ar's in no time. Keep your head up and your ski movies playing.

it could be a sist...when i tore my knee, it ended up making a sist. but it never swelled up to be that big...

Never had to deal with the Bursa Sac, but I've been under the knife 4 times with my knees.

Ever had a cortizone shot? Don't mix those with surgery, as that doesn't allow the "sac" to reseal. Remember Evan Raps, that was what wiped him off the board.

Sounds very similar to what my brother had going on for a while. He has no torn ligaments, and is a prof athlete. His knee would swell up and have to be drained on a regular basis for about 1 year. He was able to play soccer the entire season and the knee made him miss a few games. With any luck you should be able to do the same. Good luck man!

ive had 2 acls and 1 full scope and i would agree that unless youve can attribute the injury to something you did i woudl suspect its not an acl.

if you blow out your acl, 99% of the time you will know it. the pain, the swelling that the intial pop of your knee will give you a pretty good idea that its fucked.

i would get a few opinions before gettin cut up. mri's are subject to opinion and just cuz one doc says its one thing doesnt mean it really is. your trying to look at a 3-D object in 2-D so its tough.

dont push yourself too hard, dont risk it either. your knees are too important. if its gonna take surgery or PT or time or all of the above, dont rush it. if you do you will have problems for the rest of your life.

keep us posted and good luck!

paulwall, i got dave beat in knee surgerys, i got 3 acls... but i had my knee drained a few times last operation, and its pretty cool to watch. Good luck...let us know. At least its november.

No MRI results as of yet. My doctor is probably a knuckle-head and is mailing a letter instead of calling me.

But today, the swelling went down a bit and it feels like there is a lot less pressure than there was. I have been sleeping with it elevated the past nights and thats working wonders.

There is definitely still a lot of fluid in there but if it just has to be drained, thats no big deal.

I walked pretty well today. Occasional limp but nothing like it has been.

Thanks for everything err-body, if things keep going good like they are today, I'll definately be shredding my ARV's and skiing with all you cats in no time.

So, MRI results came back yesterday, ... and I have a slight tear in my meniscus.
No real details yet. I have an appointment to go see a surgeon later this week I believe and we'll be discussing if I need surgery or not.
I have mixed feelings about it I guess. Hopefully surgery is an option so the problem doesn't arise again, but then again if I didn't I would have to wait it out and who knows how long that could be.
In the meantime, I can't ski. It's snowing, and there is a competition at Wild next Friday. It's called Am Thrash. Ya'll should go,....I'm judging.
So in my spare time, I will be taking part in as many winter activities that I can, until I can ski.
Peace.

Ive thrashed my meniscus's a few times and had them repaired when I had surgery for the ACL. Depending the size of the tear, they will either want to go in there and snip away some of the tear that's flapping away, or they'll want to stitch it up.

If they just snip away a few frays to clean up the tear, you'll be good to shred in like 2 weeks. Hopefully it's that option.

If they have to stitch up the tear, that's the worst. You'll have to give your knee prolly 4 weeks before walking on it, then rehab, then hopefully skiing, you're looking at like 3-4 weeks on crutches, then prolly 2 weeks before skiing again.

Hopefully the tear just needs to be cleaned up, you'll be back by mid december worst case.

they fixed mine when i had ACL surgery last spring, and those are the exact things they told me 2. Cody you should go get Dr. Kruse at orthopedic partners for your surgen in Riverdale by Menards he's one of the best in the state and you saw how fast my acl got better.

Apparently a second opinion is a very good thing. The surgeon said that my meniscus was NOT actually torn, which is good. I do not need surgery.
They drained another 80cc's from my knee and are testing it for rheumatoid arthritis. That would be gay, but hopefully we can get to the bottom of this mystery soon. They pumped me up with some steroid too. :-)
Some physical therapy is needed. Hoping to be able to ski after Christmas..... we'll see.
