My idea for a comp

Since there was so much bitching about the big air at X this year, it got me thinking of how we could do a better job in a big air comp. I have no problem with the pipe comp they held this year, that was amazing, but the big air was a bit of a letdown, in the judging and the riders originality of tricks. I think it'd be sweet if we could raise money on newschoolers or something and have a NS sponsored event but either way here would be the setup...

There'd be like 5 or 6 invited riders in each group and it'd be a game of SKI(like PIG in basketball). One rider would go and throw down his trick of choice. Then the rest of the riders would have to do the same trick but could mix it up and throw in any grab or style they want. If they fall or dont do the trick then they get a letter. After they all go, the judges(made up of skiers or at least people that know their shit) will vote on who did the trick the best and that person will get to go first and pick the trick for the next jump. To speed things up a bit and so that people can be eliminated on an "easy" trick, the judges could also vote for the worst one and give them a letter.

This way, the riders will be pushing the style factor a ton so they can do the same trick as everyone else but better. Also, it'd really push the ingenuity part. Any person that can throw down a new trick will definetely have a leg up on the competition. This is just an idea I had and i know it'll never happen but what do ya think?

yea that would be sick. also make a rule that you cant do a trick someon else already did again. good idea. see who the really good skiers are.

yeah but only for one jump cuz there'd be a rule like that one kid said that they couldn't do the same trick twice

.

I would love to follow through on this but seeing as how i live in michigan and dont know anyone in the skiing industry its hard to do too much about it. Just an idea. I could email bishop, but i dont know if he'd have the time to try and setup anything like this.

good idea, i play it sometimes with my friends, but you cant have people elimintaed for easy tricks because that is all relative

I was thinking that but then if someone were to just throw a nice three, then there'd be no point for the other riders to try to do a good one. As long as they landed they wouldnt get a letter. If u give the worst one a letter then they are all aiming to make theirs the best one and putting as much style into it as they can. Plus, if they didnt get a letter unless they fell then the comp would take a day and a half to finish.

... hmm (btw, pardon the sarcasm, i'm tired)

that sounds strangely like PIG air.

it is!!

instead of the whole group dong the same jumps, riders are paired up..

so... they'd have to collect S-K-A-T-E type of deal?

we play that in the park sometimes, it pushes you alot, just incase anyone was wondering....

in my opinion this promotes hucking... for instance Im sure alot of ppl can do switch unnatty 10s, but how many can do em on command with the style of gagnier? How many ppl can do 12s and 14s, switch etc, it would still be a big air comp fancied up... call a spade a spade when you see it, Im still not a fan

i think the idea is sick but they shouldnt be able to change up the grab--just make them throw more style in it. nice idea tho. very sik

ya - i like the whole "mini golf " idea and things liek the candide open but the pig thing is kool too but slopestyle is better

over the summer i think, i remember reading about it in bmx plus. it was called PIG. but like each company was on a team and they went against the other companies (like a pig version of the masters)

thats probably one of the best idea's i think for a comp...i bet if you contact enough companies to help you sponsor it, talk to newschoolers...talk to whoever...it would possibly go down

"so they can do the same trick as everyone else but better"

i dont meen to be skeptical, but doesnt that line sound kinda like what happened a X?? everybody was doing sw. 1080's and trying to do them better that the other guys

that would still be a cool ass comp, but how would you decide who went first?

I think that it should be on a set of features so like the first round would be on a step down, then a box set up, and then a table, fallowed by a trap box rail combo, with maby a step up after that, So the comp would be based on all different types of skiing, not just jups or rails, and a person who just destroys rails and urbans, could compeat with a person who only jumps.

you could also do the same thing in a bigmnt comp and the erson who gets down the line the slowest/or falls would get a letter. but for each 10-15 feet of air someone does you dock a second and for each posible 10-30ft air you skip you add a second. (seconds could also be tocked for tricks).

Yeah, i know what ur saying but i guess i was mainly focusing on how it'd make people do more than just the 1080. Including small stuff. And as far as who goes first, just pick a trick and for the first round everyone has to do that trick(it'd probably be something easy like a 360) and whoever the judges vote for gets to go first next round. They'd have to rank everyone though and figure out an order. And no one would get a letter for doing the worst in that round.

I dont know, I'd probably have to poll newschoolers to see who they think are the most progressive riders and invite them.

I dont know if its above, i didnt care to read but they allready had a big air comp called ski pig, it was at kirkwood last year with the top guys, i think tanner even knocked himself out during it.. anyways it hasnt been said, its been done.

I think the best way to do that would be to have a seperate rail version of the same comp. It would get really complicated if riders could go to whatever features they want on their turn. I was thinking of having multiple groups of 5-6 riders so one group could be on the jumps while another is on the rails and then they could switch. But i dont know, i havent worked it all out yet.
