I already posted in NSG a while ago but I dont feel like I got enough constructive comments so its media and arts time!

I spent way too much time working on this to get that little comments so PLEASE comment. tell me what you think of it and also how you interpret the story... that is the funnest part to hear about

That was sick. I really liked it.

Criticism:

I felt like the animation was choppy.

I felt like the light bulb at the end was unnecessary, just end it with the guy getting enveloped.

I completely agree with the choppyness. I would have liked to have made it smoother but that would have involved photoshoping about 600 more pictures and we only had a certain amount of time to complete it ( it was an assignment in my film production class)

about the light bulb, I included it symbolicaly so that people can make symbolic connections. I wanted it to be more than just a visual story but also say something... a theme and so the lightbulb is important symbolism for my theme.

thankls for the input, glad you liked

is that an animation, or is it just video with a filter on it? it looks like the latter.

i thought the choppy-ness of it made it kinda cool. but as that guy just said, it sort of just looks like a filtered video. i liked it though keep it up.

thought it was sick, i think that the choppyness added rather than took away from the animation. I thought the choppyness added to the theme of the entire video....at least what i think the theme was.

actualy its a good thing that you think it is a filter because it tells me that it is well done and uniform.

heres how I did it.

I filmed my movie on normal film camera

edited everything on final cut

exported as image sequence at 5 frames per second ( for most parts)

painstakingly edited every single picture using photoshop

used a combination of image filters and image adjustments for the basic look

then used a circle selecting tool

( all of the above on every single picture)

then added black by hand using a paint brush

then place all of the images back over the video in final cut

make sure it matches the music ( it didnt) match it to the actual time it has to last

snap it all back together and render

it was tonnes of work, I would love to make it better and patch up a bunch of things I dont like for my university application but I dont have the time yet so we will see

you took pictures from video, photoshopped the living hell out of it and then placed them in a row on a time line..

Look at stuff the students at SCAD do and then tell me you animated...

hey thanks for being constructive... and not an asshole in any way.

rotoscoping ( what I did) is an animation technique. there are tonnes of different ways to animate and rotoscoping is a very popular one

the end.

rotoscoping is not entirely what you did.. you took video... ripped stills from it and photoshopped the hell out of it..

rotoscoping is tracing over an image and going frame by frame.. you simply applied the same filter to 948579875 frames of video stills and then laid them in a row (as stated before)

(ask me how i know.. a 3d animator is in the family and just finished working on a movie that will be out shortly staring jason lee...)

thanks for the healthy dose of claim there!

the infection itself was animated by any standards, and why do I give a fuck about weather or not its an animation film or any other type of film. I made it for it to be enjoyed, not qualified into different cattegories.

here let me reframe to make you happy. enjoy my sequence of immages topped with music.

sooo, he wakes up with a wicked bad hangover, then starts hallucinating and gets lost then he sees a girl with stitches on her mouth and runs, then things start crawling under his skin like in the mummy...and the whole time his heart is racing. thats what i got out of it.

^ lol i thought it was pretty good, but for the faster parts i thik i would have done a few more frames per second (like maybe 2 more a second) just because it was kinda hard to follow what was going on especially in the running scene, besides that pretty good in my opinion

just here to say i dig it and i got into the story line pretty easily, it did seem a little choppy but its ur first time si id expect that to happen. ive never done this really before so i wouldnt know much else about this. but props because you did better than i could ever do.

you prob could have done this in after effects in half an hour...
and if you did the same thing to every frame in photoshop you could have made an action and it would have done itself

we used actions only for the black and white, the rest has to be done by hand. I had to place the circle exactly where I wanted it on every frame and the infection can not be done by an action.

Don't mean to thread Hijack but I did a similar project in high school
Created this video by exporting image sequence at 30 fps this was a complete and total bitch this was a two person job we hand pained (in photoshop) almost every frame and it took a long fucking time to do

wow. both those videos are super sick.....I think Mat that urs was a perfect length, flowed really well, but if u want to improve to the fullest, some of the transitions went straight from lots of black to lots of white maybe have the black or white creep in more in you know what i mean instead of a burst of it

I like it a lot. It definitely reminded me of rotoscope film and the chopiness added to the erieness of the story. One of my favorite movies is the Waking Life and it sort of reminded me of that as far as the animation went
