My experience with 9thward skis. (a warning)

The following is a story about my experience with 9thward skis. You can feel free to draw your own conclusions but really there is only one way to look at this. I spent over 400 dollars and skiied on skis for under 6 days. Some people may say this is not the proper way to deal with this but the proper actions have already been taken and its time to SPREAD THE WORD. Enough threads like this and i can only hope that the NS community will be able to understand 9thward as the company it is.

I purchased last years HH pros online and began skiing them the day after christmas. I skiied a few days over christmas break, i skiied mostly rails and i will admit that i did some pretty good damage to the sidewalls but nothing that should cause a "quality" ski to break in half. The following weekend i went to whiteface for the first time of the season, i went off a small bump and landed in some thicker snow than i was prepared for causing me to roll over the front of my skis. It was a pretty low speed crash and nothing horrible happened at all. The core on one of the skis broke as well as the topsheet horizontally about 6 inches from the front of my boot. There was clearly some sort of flaw in the core and i was really bummed but knew that seeing that i only skied about 2 weeks on these skis they would surely be warranteed. I sent them into the online dealer who, after saying that i shouldnt use skis on rails, i was able to convince to show them to 9thward. He did this and forwarded the email he got from 9th to me. The email essentially said that seeing the sidewall damage that he wouldnt give me a new pair. I then emailed 9thward directly and this email was ignored.

In my opinion the sidewall damage has nothing to do with an entire core getting cracked in half. Clearly i could not have treated these skis so badly that they should break in half after 2 weeks, and less than 6 days of skiing.

Take this post as a word of warning and although i will continue to attempt to contact 9thward i believe that i have lost my money completely. As a side note my cousin broke a pair of his 9thwards this winter. I personally do not support 9thward in anyway at this point and i do not suggest buying their skis at ANY time in the future. I realise that 9thward is most likely a dying company and may be my fault to put any trust in this company but i figured for the price i would get an at least respectable ski, and i was wrong.

SPARKNOTES: do not buy 9thward skis unless you are willing to gamble your money away at what seems to be horrible odds.

While maybe the brand is run poorly, I skied heavily on Firstblood's for ~2.5 season and Tha 187's for a season and had no issue with the quality of the skis. They skied really well after a lot of abuse and in my mind, the quality was top-notch - miles above other big brands that I've been on.

Unfortunately this is more of a warning about park skis in general. If you destroy the sidewalls of your ski, the result will be water getting in and damaging the core. Once a core is damaged it can take the smallest of impacts to break it.

Any time you do damage to the sidewall you need to get it fixed.

It is very unlucky that your skis broke so quick, and also its a shame that your skis were not replaced. I can certainly say, some of the bigger companies can warranty skis like this, as the numbers they sell allow them to take the hit, however with smaller companies this is not always possible.

But I have had ninthward skis in the past and they were great, I have also broken armadas, salomon, k2 and rossingnol so unfortunately your experience is fairly common for park skis in general.

Elan makes skis for Ninthward. And 4frnt.

I rode some 9s, and they were badass. We home-rockered them and they became my favorite skis ever. I sold them on TGR two years ago, and they're still going strong.

I have no issue with the skis themselves, just the company. Elan makes some of the most durable skis on the market. But any ski will break down under abuse if the core gets wet.

dont really know why im posting but....

I happen to get on the lift with the brother of the guy who owns 9. He was talking about how they have been getting screwed over by their factories and how its been really rough on the company. He seemed a lot more happy about the quality of this years skis since they have moved production to Elan's factory. Also his brother is not in jail. I just wanted to post this purely because this guy was so nice and Its sad to see his families company get bashed.

you're obviously just not thug enough for ninthward. maybe start packing a 9 while your skiing and they'll send you some free skis

you piss me off. why even post. get out.

onward: i have no experience with 9 other than some buddies that ride them, their skis are okay, but nearly the same situation you described happened to me on my 4frnts, plus the core collapsed underfoot and it was swelled out nearly touching my boot. this was after 12 days straight on rails at my home hill.

i happened to have the skis with me when i was in salt lake city and 4frnt pretty much told me they didn't care, i said i was going to surface then and the guy says 'go for it dude'

maybe my eyes exaggerated the damage or there was a microninja in their messin with my core, but i was pissed, but i've heard plenty of good stories about 4frnt too. so there's a bad one i guess. it happens, i got over it, and i ride double times like a boss. my best fitting ski ever

oh fuck off, its just another thread saying they hit rails broke thier skis and didnt get new ones, much like your responce, skis from all companys break, stop hitting rails

Typing from mobile so this will be a mess: here is my reasoning for disliking you and wishing you to leave: posting in a GT thread saying you didn't read the op isn't funny and is a waste of everybodys interweb. Yes I understand you are only one man and it only took me half a second (i like to think im a pretty fast reader) to read your post, but they add up and make this sub forum that much harder to sort through and find useful information. Save your comedic input for nsg, the rest of the site is serous business. I also realize that your older, tougher, and better at skiing then me, and I'm probably 12, but swearing doesn't make you a cool kid and insults aren't good arguments. Shitstorm, no, shit mist, more likely.

To sum up this thread:

Some no flow beaters smashed their ski's on rails, then got sadface when the manufacturer told then to get bent.

Sparknotes: Bunch of fags.

Ninthward is still fucking lame.

im not sticking up for ninthward skis at all, i've heard nothing good about them. but think about park skiing. your putting all your weight on an inch of thin metal. once you start hitting kinks, then its even worse. every ski is going to fall apart. some appear to be bombproof. personally have abangs and they are wonderful, suspects are horrible, along with ninthward.

I am going to guess you are talking about durability wise here, because besides from that suspects are not horrible. And yeas, i have as well not heard many positive things about Ninthward skis.

I have nothing but positive stuff to say about 9th... They hook me up with awesome deals every year..

I have had the RSP 08s for 4 seasons now and they ae still strong got the RDS of this year and its the most fun ski ever. infact i use it in the park more than my park ski now.

I have 5 pairs for 9ths now and have never had one break... Yes I admit as a company they suck when it comes to warrenty and shit.. but Their product is solid.. never actually had to send anything off for warrenty..

as for rail damage, rails are for faggots.
