My brother makes beats...

He's got a macbook pro. I think he uses Logic Express 9 or Logic Studio, not sure.
 
Logic is a really good way to get into this kind of thing. Just get some basic keyboard skills and learn to play with a metronome and you're set.
I'm like grade 8 piano but I can't keep time for shit, so I'm fucked with logic hahahaha. I'll have to work on that lol.
But yeah, logic pro has like 6 super ill synths, a dope drum sampler/sequencer, tons of loops and a shitload of instruments to use. I would highly reccomend it. Not for the faint of heart/easily distracted. It take a lot of time to learn to use really well, but that said you can also start throwing together some really sick stuff right away.
And it functions as a full mixer/multitrack. Awesome program. Recently reinstalled my OS on my macbook and I am REALLY hoping I can use the same serial code to get it back. If not I will be PISSED.
 
Thank you! I play drum set and have played piano and bass so I have the basics of music/beats.

Last night I downloaded a program called psycle: http://psycle.pastnotecut.org/portal.php and I'm just getting the hang of it.

I'm on windows so Logic won't work for me I don't think :( If someone can recommend a program for windows that I can torrent that would be way cool
 
You can quantize in logic. So if your timing on a midi controller isnt dead nuts it micro adjusts to pretty much any faction of time you need.

Anyone have down-loadable links to some AUs? looking for new synths...
 
Yeah my timing is pretty whack hahaha. I have issues using USB keyboards lol. I've played piano for 11 years but noooo, I can't use USB keyboards for shit.
 
It's definitely a good start. I'm not necessarily a fan of the music but props for working on his production skills. Advice? - J.Dilla. That is all.
 
i prefer a more organic sound. the 808 type samples are kinda cheesy and generic IMO, then again i seem to never like anything with mainstream influence.
 
I guess he is pretty decent at what he does, but that style of hip-hop is the worst.Tell your brother to start making boom bap beats instead.
