Musicians in the last 15 years that will stand the test of time

bring on the hate, but phish will go down as one of the greatest group of musicians ever. as eric clapton said when asked what it felt like to be considered the greatest guitarist ever..."well you will have to ask trey anastasio that"

there are a lot of small bands today that are great but everyone wants to be "unique" now, so i don't think that we as a generation will ever have one unifying sound/genera/artist. im betting that in the future they will look back at this time and just say ya they fucked stuff up

Phish absolutely will, I cant believe I forgot them... that being said, whatever Clapton thinks, Clapton is a better guitarist than Trey.

Dinosaur Jr. The Hold Steady. Pavement. LCD Soundsystem (New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down is going to stand the test of time for sure). Spencer Krug and his projects too.

Well, I carried Wolfmother over from my list of modern bands that can truly be categorized as "rock". Didn't know they broke up. I also didn't know that they were a crappy knockoff band. My mistake.

I also forgot about Beck, he's definitely going to be in there. Gorillaz was also on my list but I'm not sure about their staying power.

I always think about how funny it will be to tune in to an "oldies" station in 40 years or so and hear Smashmouth, or Third Eye Blind, or Weezy come pouring out.

its already been said, but rage against the machine will definitely be remembered. also eminem, probably kid cudi, and as much as nobody on here wants to admit it lady gaga will certainly be talked about years from now.

Soulja Boy?

Jk music that will live on is more of the rock genre, also a lot of alternative music like coldplay will live on.

ahh. alternative is just a branch of rock, and i wouldn't call coldplay alternative, would i be willing to think they'll have any kind of real longevity.

WE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so much win in that post, i would thank you for making me laugh, but it feels like my ribs are broken so now im in a shit load of pain

Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers for sure.

I will gamble that Rise Against and the Offspring will be also.

The Gorillaz for sure!

Jay-Z

Big

Pac

The Chilli Peppers

A little later but Slightly Stoopid....

The Glitch Mob

I would agree other than Rise Against. I feel as though they will be forgotten because their early stuff was so good in the punk days, but it got so shitty at the end to appeal to average listeners.

Sublime Blink 182Green Day Red Hot Chilli Peppers Rage Against the Machine Beastie Boys
Maybe some ska band since is was so popular in the 90's. Mighty Mighty Bosstones maybe Goldfinger or Reel Big Fish

bunch of hipsters in here....

Phish

Green Day (pre 2000)

Dave Matthews Band

Radiohead

The White Stripes

Nirvana

Jay Z (pre 2000)

DJ Premier/Gangstarr

BIG

RHCP

Depends on what your into really. Anything from the past 10 years is basically garbage....white stripes, radiohead, and a few other smaller guys are the only thing musically good these days. And everyone listens to such shitty music these days that the small guys that are good, will never be recognized enough to really "stand the test of time" b/c nobody will know who they are in 10 years. Shit nobody knows who they are now.

Nothing will ever stand the test of time like:

Jimi Hendrix

CREAM

Canned Heat

Fleetwood Mac (pre 70's) bet nobody knows what that is even

50-60's blues artists

Zeppelin

Grateful Dead

Marley and the Wailers

People have said the same thing about music forever, nothing's really changed. In the 60s there were people who said the same things about the '20s and '30s. There's a name for this phenomenon, I read an article on it in my English course.

IMO anyone that thinks that music more recent than 1980 sucks in general needs to get their head out of the sand and move into the 21st century. The groups that people listen to now are the ones that will be remembered. I personally love Cream, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Bob Gnarly, etc etc but there's good artists that are current too.

And I don't think anyone in here is hipster... Or maybe I'm a hipster because I've heard of all these artists? I don't even know what hipster is any more, somebody told me Kid Cudi is a hipster because he wears scarves.

you redeemed your stupidity with this post. it barely makes sense. you had a rare good post and then blew it jenifa.

anyway, i heard RHCP on the classic rock station in denver the other day, so i would say them for sure.

also,

animal collective

tool

radiohead

and of course justin beiber will go down as the greatest singer/song writer ever in the history of the world...jokes

yeah, the hipster thing was a little harsh.

There is a lot of good music out there, but it simply just isn't recognized. I could be in a lecture hall of 300 students age 18-20 and ill mention someone like portugal the man or sierra leone refugee all stars and i guarantee 1 person at best knows who they are. and that applies to pretty much everyone under the age of 25-27ish (im 23). you ask them about jay z or green day and they talk about some shitty album like american idiot or whatever jay z's new album is like its the only stuff theyve done.

done ranting, im just bitter about the shit kids listen to these days.

ps. liking dubstep/house/dj shit doesn't give you street cred. shit blows, go make some real music
