I know the music scene in california is amazing, but I'm looking to move to a location where I can see my favorite rappers/dj's wile staying near a ski hill. I have looked on google etc. but talking to a cali resident would be very helpful

tahoe is just about your only bet for something decent, mammoth is too far removed and the skiing anywhere else in CA isn't that great.

I've lived in Socal for 3 years now skiing mostly at Mountain High. It's a small resort but the park is incredible every year and you can ski till 10pm most days of the week. Most of the mountains in SoCal are pretty small (Big Bear, Snow Summit, Mountain High, Snow Valley, Baldy) and the snow can be iffy. I live about 30 minutes from LA and an hour from Mountain High. I can't comment on the music scene, but it's LA so I imagine it's pretty good??

Plus once the snow melts, you've got any beach at your disposal. But, as Twoods said, the skiing is not that great outside of Tahoe and Mammoth.

That answer depends on exactly how much you like skiing... Sacramento is meh for in town life, but great outdoors stuff that's super close, and if cows and crops are your scene Davis is 5 minutes away haha. Santa Barbara has great bike trails and stuff like that but not a ton else (beach is cold as fuck even in the summer so it's definitely hardly an option to say "hey let's go swim at the beach"), but keep in mind most of the city life to do with SB is mostly college stuff so if that isn't your scene, take that into consideration. For college type life? SB all the way. For being closer to the mountains and stuff Sacramento. An easy way to look at it is that Sacramento's closest mountains (Tahoe) are realistically about 3 hours away in the winter. And Santa Barbara's closest mountain (Mammoth) is about 6 hours away with no traffic or weather. So in a pick between the two it's up to you. If it were me deciding between Sacramento or Santa Barbara, I'd pick South Lake Tahoe.

If you've gotta live in either SB or Sac, then go to Sac. SB is so far removed from skiing you might as well just give up skiing and party your wallet off. Sacramento is at least only an hour.5 from Any Tahoe resort, and it's pretty close to the Bay Area as well.

It's also not the shithole everyone claims it to be. The burbs around it suck ass but downtown Sacramento is actually not too bad. Besides the heat, there's nothing really that awful about Sacramento.

None the less, I'd rather live in Truckee/SLT than Sac, any day.
