Msp new trailer (RUIN AND ROSE)

There is no doubt in my mind that MSP has made some of the best ski films of all time, but lately I feel as if some of their stuff has been so corny lately. Guess that's the price you pay for trying to appeal to a more "mainstream" audience...

That being said T-Rains and Hoji are in it. So you know I'm definitely going to cop it.

unless that voice over script is a legitimate quote from someone living in that 'world', this is the stupidest thing i've seen in a while.

better to have some real-life geology professor discuss mountains and how they were formed in actuality

.. and have the kid read the professor's prose rather than some mythological, brain-damaged verbiage about "flowers popping up out of the sand." Perhaps for the sequel.

haha dude, MSP has always been insanely corny

but theyve also always had some super high level skiing, like you alluded to, and the skiing (not the voiceover/stupid theme) in this trailer was dooooope

I'm pretty sure its not about how mountains were formed, but its post current state, covered in sand and dust, and the kid is dreaming of what it would be like to have mountains and water etc

Commentary/Story looks interesting... but the actual skiing I saw looks sick.

Super stoked that Sander has some shots in the film, he has been low key killing it and you're gonna see it in this film.

Let me rephrase that. Before it was just goofy and corny. In a joking, Shane-esque way. Not its more cinematic and trying to broaden their audience corny. Like something to try and entertain under 30 to those over 40.

How do you put a ski movie out year after year without them feeling repetitive? That's the big question.

I don't care for the corny themes and narration. I'll probably watch TGRs movie without the volume so I don't have to hear Sage the philosopher tell me the meaning of tight loose.

I feel that if you're going to insert a plot into a ski movie you better go all in with it. Sweetgrass does this with their films and they make it work. Valhalla is a beautiful film. Otherwise it feels no different than watching your basic piece of shit warren miller film with Jonny Moseley repeating the title throughout the movie. I think MSP actually did something pretty cool with Superheroes of Stoke and revisiting all of their past athletes. But for the most part the themes are pretty lame.

shredding was dope, trailer was corny as fuck. i fast forwarded to where i actually saw mountains. seeing ski movie companies try and do this sell-out hollywood shit makes me cringe.

I agree with this. I watch ski movies for the action and hopefully a good soundtrack, although I don't like the soundtracks as much as I used to. If the soundtrack sucks I will watch it with the sound off. It is the skiing I care about.

I should add that it sucks that Jonny Moseley is not in front of the camera anymore. He was arguably the best skier in the world at one point, a great bump skier who could dominate park and ski big lines with the best of them. Watch The Realm, a TGR movie from 1999. Moseley is doing back flips off cliffs in AK and trading AK lines with Nobis and Jeremy Jones and skiing those lines just as well as they are. Had he stayed in the game I think he would have been as good as Candide, he was better than Candide back then.
