MSP - AK Shoot

let me guess... same jump as last year, slightly bigger and some triples went down... yeup sounds progressive alright... MSP progressive anyways...

4bi9 and stept...lemme guess, some more urban, a few more kinks and switchups, some big drops to flat went down...yep sounds progressive alright.

TGR...lemme guess, some steep spines, some deep pow in jhole, seth frontflipped a big cliff, ian mac stomped some slightly larger double stagers than last year...yep sounds progressive alright.

Level 1 and PBP...lemme guess, some really big park jumps, some variation of a cannon box, a bunch of bc booters, some white kids dressing like a poor black kid in handmedowns, some urban...yep sounds progressive alright.

you are officially kicked out of the ginger club for being too much of a debbie downer.

wow, someone trying to defend MSP for being original... this is almost as awesome as WME athletes defending WME as being "for the ski industry".

no not original, but they are progressing the sport...maybe not in the direction you like.

and they have a good thing going with the heli, massive jump, mtn sunset setup. why not push it to its limit? It still looks pretty damn cool to me.

the other companies are doing the same thing, going for bigger tricks on bigger features, shot from the same angles...

You're an idiot. You will not see better quality heli shots or a sicker/bigger jump in any of next years movies. MSP made the best movie last year. The jump segment blew people away.

Skiierman, you suck.

Looks good, but kinda boring, seeing that it is the same jump. Sick nonetheless, but at least level 1 switched it up a bit.

are you serious? are you aware of brainfarm? of travis? his (or should i call it their....) trailer is better their (MSP) entire movie. 90 foot jump, pretty standard. i've hit a 90 footer. helishots? travis' new movie will kill everyones. and is it fair to compare a snowboard movie to a ski movie. in this context, sure. we're talking jump size and helishots, right?

That jump is close to 120 to the sweet spot, first of all. Secondly, I'd love to see you hit that. Thirdly, we were talking about the progression of SKIING. And lastly, Travis got absolutely wrecked on last years MSP Alyeska jump. Fact.

whoa whoa whoa, I thought we had to have a meeting about this before that can happen....
Either way let's think about the word progressive...and not the car insurance.
-adjectivefavoring or advocating progress, change improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are.
NOW this is going to sound really really douchey but isnt the fact that MSP is building bigger jumps more than once a year the fact that they are advocating progress? I mean like they are trying to get more people to throw triples? (which I am not the biggest fan of but god damn it's crazy) Plus have you seen Sean Pettit in the MSP movies lately? That kid is killing it.
It's the same argument 7 years ago as it is today but a little bit different. Back then it was majorly MSP vs PBP. Now it's MSP vs PBP vs LV1 vs Stept vs 4bi9 vs TGR vs TSP and then there is the webisodes but all of this all of this boils down to is this.

zoom out and look at how MSP movies change each year. it's the same step, going down the same path, season after season. that's "maintaining things as they are."
but i don't care as long as they keep putting out sean petit segments.

skiierman:

jump was in a totally different spot, and built completely different from last year.

jump was shorter (85ft), and poppier, allowing more hangtime.

1 triple was thrown.

a variety of other tricks were thrown both ways.

maybe not anything progressive but everything was filmed from a helicopter on a phantom camera... i dont know what you are looking for in a ski movie, but if it's night time urban segments, grabs on rails and dubstep remixes youre probably in the wrong thread...

matchstick just doesnt have the feel that it used to. id rather watch ski movie 1, 2 or 3 over any matchstick movie that has come out since then. colby still kinda brings the heat humor wise, but its nothing compared to brad holmes rapping, douglas smoking in a puffy coat, leprechaun vinnie, or epic briefcase/bowling intros.

until seth hits a rollercoaster rail on top of a phonebooth, im over msp. their shit is boring and played.

Every film company has it's own style. You don't like MSP's style, so be it. A hell of a lot of people do. Last year's flick didn't win People's Choice at the most unlikely of venues--IF3--for nothing.
But before bagging on MSP, consider every single film company out there. Does anyone change up their whole style any more than MSP? No. PBP movies look like PBP movies each year, with slight changes and the level of skiing taken up a notch. Same goes for Level 1. Same goes for any film company out there. Slight changes, some unique twists, a different camera angle or two introduced.
When people go to an MSP flick, they can expect killer cinematography, an amazing level of skiing, some stories, a few off-the-wall antics and a bunch of entertainment. And most people (just not you because you're too focused on not enjoying it) come away completely satisfied. Is that such a bad thing year in, year out?
Guys like skiierman want to lay into MSP any chance they get. But think for a moment. Did you rip on Level 1 for shooting a huge booter in Sun Valley again this year? How about PBP, shooting yet another kicker at Keystone? How about TGR? It's a good bet they shot in Stevens Pass, yet again. What about your beloved 4bi9? Did they shoot in any park they've shot in before? Yeah, everyone does. Because it works.
You go to a place that is willing to build shit, and MSP just happened to establish a good relationship with Alyeska last year, a place that also happens to have a killer backdrop. Why not shoot there again and try to capture the limits of what tricks can be thrown? It not the same jump. It's just a big as jump on the same ski area. Just like shooting another jump at Keystone, Breck, Hook. Wherever. Don't watch if you don't feel like it.
Alright, enough rant. I'm sure most of you will be completely stoked on the footage that came out of this shoot. I know I'm stoked to see it.
One last jab--skiierman, you spelled your name wrong a long time ago. Maybe an effort at being a "skier", but not quite getting it right.

You tell 'em, Gaff. Skiierman is the biggest prick around anyways, pay no heed to his bullshit rants.

Still, I too long for something...like High Society and Front Line's intros and outros... They hold a special place in my heart. But The Way I See It got something done damn well, I don't know what it was but it hit home.

yeah lets all hate on matchstick and even try to act like they dont put out the all around best and most progressive ski film every year. you guys are fucking dumb as shit.

Thanks Dan, I appreciate it. Oh and I apologize for getting you into the Boston MSP show last year. Must have been a "boring and played" night for you.

i agree, but it's also the same for every film company. like fatbastard said, you just gotta pickthe one that fits your style, i have not enjoyed a ski film in the last 5 years as much as i have enjoyed movies like the game, ski movies and propaganda, that is why i dont buy movies anymore i just download them

so to sum it up, ski movies can't be progressive because they're predictable? However, it would be progressive if MSP had an urban segment, no matter the quality, because no one would expect it especially if it wasn't in the trailer? Yes, those are questions.

And Sammy's segment in light the wick, WOW!

sorry mr. townsend, you're referring to the photographer dan brown. there are two dan browns in the ski industry. he's a great guy, and nothing i say should reflect upon him or his business. hope that clears up any future discrepancy.

im gonna have to agree with this. i couldnt tell you how many times ive watched the ski movie trilogy, i watch them at least once yearly to this date. but their new movies just dont do it for me. i bought in deep and pretty much fell asleep after the opening segment.
it's not that im on the level one/pbp bandwagon either, but when solely focusing on msp's movies, i dont enjoy them like i enjoy their older ones.
