MSP 2 year project

I heard a rumor that MSP is working on a new two year project, and won't be releasing a film this fall. Has anyone else heard anything? what would everyone think of this?

I dun goofed. Into the Mind is coming out in the fall! Woot!

I dig 2 year releases though. They give a nice long spread for film companies to get awesome footage.

I don't think so. They filmed in places like Chatter Creek and Alaska, and they just did a film trip in Peru. McConkey didn't require any filming outside of interviews, so they are deffinatly working on something else as well.

Sorry I wasn't clear. They are working on a 2 year project but I was saying that they still releasing a movie this year.

I'm actually stoked for this. Sherpa has obviously has a lot of success with two-year projects, and Matchstick's movie will kick ass for sure. Its also great because they picked Sherpa's off year.

Sweet! Matchstick is the best film crew out there right now...Level 1 is second only because the movies between Refresh and Sunny were just meh

I could understand not loving Afterdark, but Eye Trip?! Eye Trip is my favorite Level 1 movie, and probably my favorite ski movie as well.

I wouldnt be too upset. The TGR and Sherpa should offer some consolation for me personally. And Valhalla looks dope

Good point, I've just watched Eye Trip more because it was the first ski movie I bought on itunes, I have the rest on dvd. Out of the older Level 1 movies, I find myself watching the superpark seggie in High Five, Crichton's urban in Forward, and CVan in Long Story Short the most.

Oh darn. I always look forward to new MSP films. That was the first ski movie company I was ever introduced to and I always loved their music choices as well.

ya dude, Im having trouble coming to terms with this. I love the way matchstick movies always have that same vibe every year, and Im terrified of loosing that. I dont know what to do!647008.jpeg

Agreed. Although I like their older movies more too. It may be nostalgia but I think I got more excited about Claim, Yearbook, and The Way I See it than any of their more recent movies. I feel like the only companies that have been stepping it up every year consistently are Stept, and TSP when they were still going.

Not only that, Yearbook was a turning point in ski movies forever. BASE Jumping was brought o its full potential with McConkey and JT Holmes, T-Hall started doing park tricks in the backcountry, and the idea of filming big air shots by helicopters was used. Not to mention Ingrid Backstrom had arguably the greatest segment in history.

dude you're like a pissed off old man because you hate the way things are now. Yes little shit 14 yo are our sport now. It's annoying but why does it matter so much to you. Just do you and stop hating on "converted" n00bs" just because they are new to the sport they are the next round of pros. Why is this so important to you. damn

yes, McConkey is coming out this year, and yes it is a matchstick production, but that isn't the movie for this year. Because like 90% of the footage in that movie was shot before 2009, it wasn't an insanely time consuming project this year. They aren't releasing it as part of their normal movie circulation, its a documentary about the life of Shane McConkey. if they aren't working on a 2 year project, then this will come out along with their other movie. Its not the new MSP movie, its a new documentary that MSP happens to be producing. The difference is that an MSP movie is usually just strait up ski porn that was all filmed within 8 months of the films release date, while McConkey is the story of a great mans life.

Yeah I know I really loved the basejumping segment of mcconkey.

And Mike Wilsons gap crash was also in there, holy crap

I hope if they double the years it takes to make this film that they double the amount of Ingrid Backstrom interviews.

Funny to hear everyone praising Yearbook as a major milestone in quality ski filmmaking. When that movie came out the consensus was it sucked. Don't get me wrong - Abma's part in that flick was unbelievably sick and maybe the seggy of the year, Rainville was also really great, and aside from that, the movie was absolutely terrible. Recall that Focused came out the year before that, and before that Front Line, so Yearbook was seen as a massive letdown. I remember going to the downtown Van premiere and listening to people bitch about it after... nostalgia is funny sometimes.

I actually watched it for the first time just a couple years ago. I appreciated it because they got all the skiers together and filmed the shots at the school. I loved it and haven't seen anything like it recently. I think it's the same reason everyone appreciates the intro to The Eighty-Six so much. It brings the movies together in my mind and those are actually the shots I remember from the movie.

haha this, so much.

At the time The Front Line and Focused were insanely better than Yearbook but looking back at it now, Yearbook was a pretty solid movie.

Why was my last post deleted?

Days of My Youth Announcement Teaser from MSP Films on Vimeo.

Yeah that may be, but Yearbook was the movie which not only brought me back to skiing, but also made me start freeskiing. I like it because there where so many great names in it, like tanner, rainville, wilson.
