Yo I'm trying to move to somewhere around Tahoe in January to ski bum for a bit. My physical therapist says Truckee is "awesome" but I'm looking into South Lake Tahoe also. The only thing is I don't know anyone around there, but I've wanted to ski North Star forever. Where's a good place to live for an 18 year old girl ski bum?

if you wanna ride northstar you might not wanna go out to south lake cus all your money is gonna go to gastruckee is pretty tight tho everyone i know that lives there loves it, theres alot of houses in the kings beach area also that people are always renting out and thats like literally 5 minuets from northstar. Its kind of expensive tho with gas and rent so your gonna need a job or be rediculously good looking so you can just bum rides everywere, good luck

Word yeah gas/driving will be a big factor. And living closer to North Star is smart...

Anyone live at Kings now?

Truckee, and Kings Beach are about the best two choices if you're going to be going to N* a lot.

Both are affordable, have stuff going on, and have plenty of available places to live, especially if you can find some friends to share rent with.

I'd consider moving up there and getting a job at a shop or something if I wasnt stuck in college still haha.

word truckee is wickeddd.and its close to all of the major resorts up here. except heavenly or sierra. but if you do come up here then come to truckee.

Truckee, Donner Lake, Olympic Valley, or Tahoe City.

whatecer you do dont live south lake. place is dirty and the riding is terrible in comparison to north lake.. Truckee is the cheapest and most centrally located place for all of the dope resorts

I'll probably be living in Squaw again this next winter. If you can fannagle it I'd try and get a Squaw college pass if I were you, especially if this is your first time moving out west. I just hope Squaw offers the college pass again. If you live in Truckee you could also take online or normal classes through the Sierra college truckee extension.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I will probably be out in CA in the 10/11 season because I want my knee 100% before I'm on my own. I'm going to try and check it out this winter though.

Hey!!!!

My roomate and I are also looking to move to Tahoe in January to be ski bums and we both are 19 yrs old.... but we are having to the same troubles, we cannot decide where to go?? lol

Why is South Lake such a shit hole. I have considered moving out to tahoe and getting a Kirkwood & Sierra pass.

Yo I'm tryna move to Tahoe too!

I'm gonna have to do it solo though I was wondering if anybody could give me tips on finding a place to stay (best places to look) and good jobs, are there lots of resteraunt jobs anywhere? I've got experience cooking in resteraunts and bussing. I feel like a resort job is just bad idea, I've worked em before and it's just easier to make money at a real job and the benefits (ppass) aren't worth it. This hold true down there?? Thanks guys

South Lake Tahoe would be perfect fit for you tons of cookin and bussing jobs available w/alright money and resorts are as close as 5 minutes away.

That's what I was thinking, everyone hates on south lake but it seems like it's just the cheaper place to live. Where would be the place(s) to buy a pass if you were living in south lake tahoe?

SLT is legit and depends on what you like Sierra is a good all around mtn. it has good, fun parks and also sick BC on a powder day. Kirkwood is the SHIT on a pow day hands down. And Heavenly has a good choice of parks to mess around in and its big and open, good tree skiing and some good stashes on pow days.

yea got a place in slt moving in in mid october, working on getting a resort job though teachinggetting a place wasnt too bad though im looking for a part time night job but proally help when i get out there to look. IM going out there with 5k saved up so shouldnt be too bad

5k? Damn you'll be fine and you'll find a job no problem. Start lookin online and maybe puttin in applications online cause a lot of people move to SLT for the winter to shred just like you so start gettin on it if you want an alright job

yeah i got a job at heavenly but working on getting decent housing is harder than the job
cant seem to find legit roomies / my own place
everyone is like anti party in the local ads/ craigslist
