Yo,

Been very busy recently and haven't been the NS addict I used to but realizing that the best way to move is ASK NS!

I'm an American in the military and i'm getting stationed in Bavaria.

Honestly don't know shit about living in Germany and never even been there. In the last two years hit up Belgium, France and a few other countries and that's about it.

Any help/ recommendations about living whether its shredding, cell phone plans, travel, suggestions on how to make my life awesome while being in the coolest duty station in the world would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help, drinks on me!

Yo! I know a bit about skiing in germany, what part of bavaria will you be in?

You little devil!!!! I never expected you to be my first reply. Hour east of Nuremberg.

Hmm, well im more familiar with the western part of bavaria, but what (i think) is the closest real good riding is going to be around garmisch patenkirchen, south of munich. check out zugspitze, its technically the tallest mountain in germany and i know it has some pretty solid riding a decent park. i could talk to some homies and investigate more too haha

Hey I'm an American living in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We have the best skiing in Bavaria no doubt. Here are some things to keep in mind:

There is actually an Army Base and Military hotel in Garmisch (I work at both), so that may provide an easy way to stay down here and ski.

The Garmisch-Classic *mountain (it's not a mountain, its what the resort is called, and it is on the Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze) is the best ski area. The Zugspitze is indeed the highest mountain in Germany, but does not have as good of skiing as the Garmisch-Classic. It is pretty much one wide open run down the mountain.

I'm also ski instructing this year at the Garmisch-Classic, so I will always be around if you're trying to ski with someone.

Rentals I believe are $30 for everything while a day pass is about 30-35 euro (45 dollars or so).

Feel free to message me

Prost!

I'll be in Munich this winter and will be going to the mountains by trains every weekend.

PM me if you want to meet up at some point.

If you're an hour east of Nuernberg then your most local resorts will be Geisskopf, Grosser Arber and Spicak in Czech. They are pretty low compared with the Alps, but at Arber snow is pretty reliable. I'm not sure about park facilities... they won't be anything epic. If you're into mountain biking this area has some great parks which are regularly full of US military. Check out www.gravity-card.com. Garmisch will be pretty inconvenient as it's on the wrong side of Munich, it will be easier to hit up resorts like Spitzingsee which is east of Munich or the bigger and higher altitude resorts in the Tirol. From Nuernberg it takes about 3hr30 to get to the Zillertal for instance. For easy travel a car is kind of essential, otherwise you'll be spending all of your time waiting for trains... however I'm sure catching a lift with fellow soldiers won't be a problem.

Make sure you drink the local beer. The beer around Franconia is the best in Germany and the Pilzner from the west of Czech (Bohemia) is pretty damn good too.

If you like the outdoors and doing lots of sports it's a great place to be.

Hell yeah! I've already sent my car over so it's going to be an awesome adventure.
