Moving to Denver

i live in downtown denver. the commute to the mountains is not about distance - it's all pretty close - but the hassle is traffic. saturday and sunday morning traffic in both them winter and summer is awful and gets worse every year. the upside is that you'll spend WAY less time on the road than four-hour trips to Mount Snow.

typical saturday morning drive to Breck or Copper from Denver is about 1:45, depending on the weather and time you leave. the afternoon returns are always worse. add another half hour to get to Vail.

no, you don't need to rent a condo, although that makes your weekends up there really really sweet and without any hassle.

you'll get by fine without a condo compared to what you're used to.

good luck.

all i can say is that if you have the money, rent a condo for the season. it's so worth it when you don't have to drive back to the city sat night and just go sit in the hot tub only to get up and ski again the next day.

skiin on the weekends up here just isn't worth it anymore. I used to do the drive up livin in Denver for a while but it got worse and worse and now it's just plain rediculous and it aint getting any better especially with buddy passes n other cheap passes. Unless you like crowds n waiting in line and riding sloppy seconds, ride on weekdays and avoid weekends and holidays at all costs.

i live in evergreen which is about an hour from keystone, abasin, breck, WP, then a bit longer for copper, vail and beaver creek. driving isnt that bad. for me i gotta leave around 7-7 15 to miss most of the traffic in the morning. its a bitch.

i couldn't imagine leaving at 7, wait till 10, let the hang over fade off, by then all the traffics gone. drugs also help the drive seem quicker.

My weiner is probably harder than yours.

Ya the drive isnt bad at all. I live in Evergreen which isnt far from denver and it is exactly an hour from my doorstep to Winter Park
