Moving to Denver car question about parking, etc

So long story short im moving to Denver later this year. I plan on buying a new suv/truck. I'm curious how hard is it to park your car in denver or just keep a car there in general?

Also for those who live there now. I'm coming out of a VW jetta so its a small car and Im getting a new truck or SUV. Have been looking at 4 runners / tacomas (with long bed) or potentially a tundra or a full size truck as well.

Hows the car market out there? Is it worth buying something when I move out or do it on the east coast?

I would check craigslist or whatever in your area versus Denver to compare prices. My guess would be that they are cheaper on the east coast and parking won't be an issue.

awd/4wd cars are more expensive in colorado generally speaking. depending on where your planning on living I WOULD NOT get an extended bed truck, especially if you living anywhere near downtown. i lived in a neighborhood called cap hill for the past 3 years. parking was an absolute nightmare. i would regularly drive around the block 5 or 6 times looking for somewhere to put my tiny subaru.

Depends on where you live. If you live downtown then yes you would be fucked unless your apartment has a parking garage (which I would think most do).

If you're going to live in Cap Hill or something where housing is really dense and off street parking is nearly non-existent, you want the smallest car you can get. If you get a truck, make sure it has a backup camera but still the bigger the truck the bigger the pain.

Oil prices have crashed the economy in Colorado so you should very well be able to get a sick deal on a truck

Not crashed the economy because we have a really good economy obviously, but lots of guys bought tons of toys including trucks that are now unloading them at great prices now that they aren't making six figures anymore

From buying a Tahoe in Reno back in the day (08) I can tell you that the car market out west for the type of whip you want is far worse you'd pay a premium. Not to mention you'll want something to bring your shit in. Less/no salt on the road out west is the one positive from buying out there.

Denver is nothing like Manhattan in terms of parking theres tons of it on the street the city is pretty much all vast urban sprawl outside of the immediate downtown area that isn't really that residential.

"I have a smaller and perfectly fine car and since I'm moving to a city with more restrictive parking, I'm selling my compact car for an unnecessarily big truck with an extended cab because I need more room for all the hot air I'm going to be carrying around. Can like anyone help me out???"

Ive always found the best prices on any ski/snow friendly vehicle is to scoop it from TX/FL/LA or any other southern state. Chances are its never seen salt, snow, of ever been into 4x4 mode. Those options command no premium and people are easier to haggle down on pricing.

this indeed. There's also alot of apartments ive noticed surrounding Wash Park that have rent signs up. most those are on narrow one-way streets but have assigned parking spaces out front and behind the building.

Also keep in mind exactly where you're living. Wash Park/Cap Hill (and I would assume around DU) are generally the most shit-showiest at all times. Not impossible to have a car, but not ideal.

But plenty of areas around Denver you would be ok so long as you aren't near restaurants. My gf used to live at 17th and Humboldt and while parking was usually not bad at all (I have crew cab F150 with 6.5' bed), parking around dinner time fucking sucks and I would have to park blocks away because the restaurant crowd takes up all the street parking. That is a problem assuming that's when you normally come home from work.

My rant: I swear the people who write 5280 magazine (and all the yelpers out there) only frequent Denver restaurants that they can bike to and they act as if there are no worth while restaurants outside of these "trendy" areas like the Highlands. I'll be waiting for the day when a restaurant in Centennial or Aurora gets rave reviews but that's not happening..
