Moving to Colorado?

I live in WA right now but I'm getting really sick of it and I'm going to be switching schools in the next year or so and Colorado is pretty high up on my list. I guess I'm just looking for some info on the better college/ski towns and peoples opinions on them... any help is appreciated!

Pretty much you can go to a front range school like CU and CSU and be two hours ish from skiing or you can goto CMC in the mtns.

sick of washington.... tsk tsk. haha, im from seattle and moved out to boulder for school. i absolutely love boulder, but it's not a true ski town. are you looking to actually go to school or just for a ski town? and where are you going to school now?

to many kids overlook western state, it's prolly the best option if you want your parents to pay for your school and get to ski an amazing mtn. (crested butte) every single day! and not have to deal with gaper crowds and traffic.

Its a pretty fun little school, great mountain. Cb (and surrounding bc) has some of the best skiing anywhere in the world for sure. 5mins...not quite its more like 35 from Cb and Monarch is only about 45-50 the other way. Summit County is 2.5 Hours. Ive been at western 3 years and love it. Front range is flatttttttttttttt and dirty.

Here's the deal...from my perspective.
A year ago I decided that community college in PA was boring as fuck...I wanted to ski...and go to a real school. I'm a graphic design major. Without a doubt it's one of my passions in life (next to skiing), and I'm really stoked to have that be my career path. So I looked into schools out in Colorado, and without much thinking, I picked RMCAD in Lakewood (15 outside of denver). Overall I've been satisfied with my decision. It's a good school, good teachers, small classes. Only downside is that I can't ski as much as I imagined. I still ski a lot, I work my schedule around it. Next semester I'll be able to ski max. 4 days a week, which is pretty good considering I go to school full time. Plus, living in lakewood, I'm about an hour from keystone without traffic...not to bad, but still a commute, especially with my shitty subaru and I-70 rise in elevation I burn through gas like no other. Needless to say I'm satisfied with my out west living, of course I want to be able to ski everyday, but that just isn't realistic if you want to get an education as well.
CU, CSU, DU, Metro State, etc. are all good colleges...some of them are GREAT schools. If school is your thing, Denver/Boulder has some really good options. BUT, if you want to be a ski bum...be a ski bum. CMC is trash, along with many other mountain ski town schools. They're expensive as fuck for out of state students and the level is usually very sub par for what you pay in tuition.
If you want to do the school thing...denver/boulder is great, but the drive to summit isn't so much. If you want to go to a good school and live in a dope clean city then denver is great. Otherwise, look into SLC and some Utah colleges. SLC is dope, you can live in a city atmosphere, pay cheap/reasonable rent, go to school, and be 20-30 minutes from PC, The Canyons, and Deer Valley. I may consider doing that a little later in life.
If you want to be a ski bum, it's easier than you think. Hop on vail resorts asap when they start hiring seasonals for next season. You get a free pass, a job that pays sort of decent, and the option for employee housing. Liftee jobs and rental shop jobs usually give you 1-2 hours during your work day to ski too. Only thing that sucks is that summit county rent is expensive as hell if you don't cram 5+ people into a 2 bedroom. I know a few people that work at PC also and have a cheap place in SLC...just figure out what resort you want to work at the most and apply ASAP. You'll be close to the mountain and be able to ski a fuckload...but on the downside, you wont really be doing much with your life, haha.
If you need anymore help with getting out here...hit me up. I'd be glad to help out. Some people make the decision too quickly and wind up getting fucked big time.

i agree with a lot of what you said. Summit county can be cheap though, if you move out here in the spring (around May) you'll find plenty of places that are cheap to live in, be prepared to sign a year lease though.

hah no way. I'm a Crystal girl.

Thank you guys for all the tips! It's hard to find answers like that by googling shit... I think I'm going to finish my Associates here and then probably transfer down there for my Bachelors at CU or someplace like that. I'm still in the process of figuring everything out but I'll probably be back to ask more questions...

you should rent my room for the spring semester in boulder!!! obviously not in the mountains, but you will be close!

Whats CU Boulder like? Im from WA (stevens/snoqualmie) and I was thinking of going there for school next year. How far is it from skiing and do you get to ski very much? Oh and is the college a cool place?

CU's alright, kinda bro'ish but still good times to be had. About 1.5-2 hours to keystone depending on traffic

This is my first year at CU. The location is great, the people suck. 1.5 hours from Breck. 30 mins from denver if you like to go to shows the music scene is blowing up!! I usually ski 2-3 days a week, kinda sucks, especially after a 120+ day season last year, but its a good balance between skiing and school and partying. But yeah, lots and lots of Bros in BROulder.

ya i live in boulder but hate were i'm living now (fuckin bear creek apartments) i get up skiing mainly on the weekends. only 10 days total thus far. just need to find some others that enjoy going up as much anyone whos going to be here over break feel free to pm and always be down to head up but ya its like 1.5 to 2 hours to breck, key, abasin.
