Mounting bindings

So I just bought a pair of trouble makers and look P12 bindings and am trying to decide where to mount them. I want them mounted somewhere between center and traditional but I don't know how that works. What does +1 +2 +3 and all those numbers mean.

any help?

i usually mount mine +2 which is perfect for all mtn and park riding. its pretty much in between freeride and center mount.

when people say +2 or +3 they're talking about mounting the binding 2 or 3 centimeters forward of the recommended mounting line.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.
 
Ohhh.... thanks for finally englightening me...but the numbers still arent of much value if you dont know what center would be (ie. +8???)

Also, isnt there a reason that the line is called "recommended" line? Don't most of the pro's use recommended?????????

(p.s. i heard a rumour that Fujas mounted his PE's +12... but in Session 1242 it certainly doesnt look like that)

the pros most certainly don't mount their bindings at the recommended mounting point. The recommended point is for all mountain skiing, typically. So if you aren't gonna do much of that, move forward. In my town, where most guys are huge powder skiers, you see alot of guys with their bindings mounted back from the recommended line.

Good mounting points differ according to what skis you're using, obviously, but ski brands also have general rules... If they're PEs, mounting +7 isn't out of the question, if they're ARVs, it very certainly is, and you'd be better at +1 or so. Dynastar... Well, I wouldn't go too far forward. They aren't meant to be skiied at center.

^aha good one...but if u werent joking good one still. for example, my scratchs are true center at about +6, meaning 6 cm above the recommended line. im mounting my bindings at +3 so thats right in between the line and center.

If you're getting Trouble Makers then I highly suggest mounting at Tru center. More pop and more balence hooray!

The numbers are cm forward of mid sole (traditional mounting point). The last number should be the core center mounting point on the ski. If you are just getting into going more centered on your ski, then I would suggest not hopping right to center, rather work your way to it. Mount them +3 and work from there. I know people are going to disagree, but the transition will go much better and your skiing won't be hindered as much. The other thing this will allow you to do is figure out what mounting position is best for you. Not all people should be on a centered ski and not all skis should be centered. i.e. My PE's are mounted core center for park riding, but my Motherships are mounted a cm back. Also, if you are riding one ski for everything, a centered position wont be as versitile in different riding conditions (park vs powder). Remember, you can mount skis a few different times without hidering them. Don't believe the hype that you can only mount a ski once. I've mounted my motherships 3 times and they hold up to 60 foot drops and 80 foot table switch landings. Check out next year's meathead films movie to see.

 
I ended up mounting my bindings +1 and I think +2 or 3 would have been better but it will still work well. This way I can take them other places besides just park
