Mountains in Eastern Washington like Bluewood

i am considering whitman a college possibility but the closest mountain looks like bluewood. or are there any others near the college? anyways i was wondering what people knew about the moutain. wats the pow like? hows the park? they dont have much on their website in terms of pictures or any real info. thanks

well, lets consider that it's name is very similar to blue balls, and that its trail map looks like this:

trailmap.2.jpg

also it has the lowest ticket price of any mtn in washington that isnt just a rope tow (i think)

And that; my friend who was smart enough to get into whitman, is how you use google to find answers to your questions.

Alright, here's the deal with B-wood. Sucky park (basically non-existent), usually good pow, and basically the best tree-skiing of all time. Seriously, the tree skiing here is bomb.
Pros:Pretty chill laid back environmentnot super crowdedgood powcheaplegit tree skiingsome pretty good sidecountry hike-to spotsBest hill within 2 hours of Walla WallaLots of bluebird days
Cons:Low acreage (

For some reason, the thread didn't let me add the rest of the cons, so here goes:
Crappy Vert (Less than 1000 ft.)Bad Park (No real jump line, 2-4 rails, no real park till february)Early closing (usually first sunday of april)
Basically, Bluewood gets the job done, it just doesn't do it very well. If you fiend for skiing every weekend, you should be alright . . . I am.

PM me because bluewood has been my main mountain my whole life. i live in walla walla. It is alot of what those people have been saying. But there are a lot of good jump building spots. chekc out my early season edit to see one of them, also i have a picture of a cork 7 on a jump this year. Big_Spence has a backflip sequence of a jump we made.

But PM me. and if you do go to whitman hit us up cuz we are basically the only freestyle skiers there, tons of gapers and poser snowboarders.

well thanks for the imput. i am still a junior so a ways away from making a desions but i was trying to figure out if i should even consider the college as skiing is kinda of big for me. so it sounds like bluewood could satisfy your skiing needs but it doesnt boast anything real special.

thats because this is a happy thread, in a happy forum. WA is a happy place. there is nothing wrong with WA, cept alot of things.

just do not come excepting spectacular park skiing.or really any park skiing for that matter...
basically everything that has been said is true:1. we have pretty damn good tree skiing for the size of the resort.2. not a lot of vertical or acreage. 3. good powder. always light, even late season.4. short lines and an uncrowded mountain.
plus if park is your thing, you can get to some great ones in four or less hours.

Hey I know this is an old bump but I have a few questions. I got a pretty good impression of bluewood from this thread but what are the better mountains around there? Im gonna be going to school in walla walla. How far away are they?

hahaha my dad teaches there. i can tell you a good deal about it; shoot me a pm if you're interested.

also if you visit walla walla let me know. i'm still living here in town..sadly.

Yeah, Skied at bluewood yesterday and they haven't even set up their attempt at a park. its just a little hill right now.

It's unlikely, but for sure. We'll be up at Bluewood over Winter break if you wanna shred too man. And I'll be up at Stevens Pass all year.

not gonna be home for christmas. had to work ski patrol during the holiday season to get the job.
lemme know if bluewood steps it up or not. the owners had a kid that was on the race team.

sydney heights? crazy. we'll be neighbors again when i graduate college, come back home and live with my parents till I'm 43. i got some high hopes.

whitman's still one of my top choices. 5 hours to canada and somewhere like Red mountain isn't so bad either. what are the other options beyond bluewood? is it easier to go to idaho than western washington, somewhere like crystal? what are the backcountry options in the blue mountains? selkirks?
