Built a pretty bad ass one at gore between 06 07. Would go in and weave branches into it. Was basically the shape of an igloo but all branches. Thing survive freezing rain storms. Apparently part of it is still intact although I haven't been up to check it out. Lower sleighride in the woods skiers left on the first headwall. Most ballin smoke shack.

It's not personally mine, but some good friends built this one a few years ago and it's kind of a collective now. Sits at the bottom of some really fun skiing. Really good for full moon shred missions.

Big improvements over our last wall tent "cabin". should be finished in a few weeks, it will sleep 10, propane stove/ fridge. It will have running water next season. Deep in the Monashee Mountains and fully legal, thanks to knowing the right peeps.... This cabin is going to let us explore our turff like never before !

So so jealous,

We're you using a wall tent before? Did you set it up in the summer? If so how high did you build it off the ground?? How did you heat it, we're thinking of doing that this winter

ya, we built the frame in the fall, and just put the floor (2x4 frame on plywood) directly on the ground. we heated it with a small oil burning heater. We put the canvas on in the winter, so we had to shovel it out and run the heater for the day to dry it out ... but it was comfortable and dry. I think a propane heater would work just fine too, we avoided a wood stove for the wall tent because they are a way bigger fire risk.

All the way to the skiers right at the stop of the furthest peak at Sunday river there's a nasty hut, looks out over the back side

good ideas, We were thinking of building the floor about 10ft off the ground between some trees, we've camped in the area a couple of times in february and the snow was about 8ft deep. Its only sled access in the winter so we have limited room on what we can bring so we were planning on bringing most of our supplies in the summer.

395486.jpegThe salsa shack at Sugarloaf was fuckin legendary... Ski patrol trashed a bunch of the shacks there a couple seasons ago though and burned this one down.

Been wanting to build something along this scale in the Valhallas but haven't initiated anything yet. I know the forester for the area and gonna see how much info he can give me for future logging. It's be a shame to build a permanent structure where I want to put it just to find out they are punishing the road further a year later.

^hell yea big sky represent.

we have an estimated 40-50 in bounds, now that we absorbed moonlight basin. other mountains aint got shit on us

NS should delete this thread. There are Feds on here that will bust people who helped contribute to the huts. These aren't small charges and it happened to me last time this thread was created. fuck the police and fuck rats on NS, way too many pussy cops on this website that kids don't know about

Easy buddy. posters just need to keep their wits about them. Obviously its a bad idea to brag about things that are illegal .... but this can a be a good resource for how do things right ..... post pics, but not locations and GPS co-ordinates please!!!

You don't need to go that high... honestly, 4-6 ft would be more than enough. building a platform that high is just going to cause you problems.. it will be dangerous to build at that height and unusable in low snow years or early/ late season.... plus, snow along the walls (provided it can take the load) will help with camouflage and insulation.

I am a big advocate of building legit shit, and building it legit makes certain that will be there year after year.

If you know the forester, there may be an opportunity to build a structure as part of their logging operations. If so, that would be awesome, but the hut may have to be destroyed when logging operations conclude.

The guy you really want to know is the parks land manager for the area.... this helps for a few reasons. If he likes you, he may look the other way and if him and his crew stumble upon it, knowing you they may be less like to destroy it.

2 of the best ways to do this above bar are;

Find some one who has a recreational tenure on the land (heli ski company as an example) they can usually build limited structures without much headache. its a good partnership, especially for remote tenures.. the heli guys love knowing there is a warming hut that they can set down at incase shit goes sideways.

or

Get the mineral rights to the land. this is probably the easiest, if you dont have some good connections in the area. With mineral rights, you can get away with a lot of things.. you just need a prospectors license and to keep your claim current.... if you go this way, you need to get sluice box and a shovel, and keep it at the cabin.

posting a picture is all that they needed to fuck me over and destroy the shack. trying to help people out so they don't have to go through what I did

big sky ski patrol knows about over half of the huts that insomniac posted. I think we'll be just fine.

ski patrol doesn't give a shit, it's people that work for national forest that have nothing better to do. Again, not trying to bring down the thread but I ha I fight two Felony charges and pay fines over simply posting a picture of a smoke shack in a NS thread. it was fucking stupid and it's sad people that like that exist on NS. I'm just spreading awareness

Not a single one of those pictures is on National Forest land. Whatever you did, (if you even did it) must have been mighty fucking stupid. Just shut up and let''s get on with it.

haha whatever man I'm not making this shit up. Most ski resorts are on national forest land....also fuck you for acting like you know shit that you clearly don't

jah bless, jah bless.

Thousands of years from now when weed is 100%THC, stoned people will look back and wonder how people built them while high.

Whitewater has a fucking epic hut, it has 180 degrees of extreme glades and pillow lines for right after when you're mad blazed
