Where is Wisconsin do you live? I work at a shop in West Bend. About an hour north of Milwaukee. Don't get a y frame. What kind of riding are you looking at doing? There actually is alot of decent mountain biking in Wisconsin. Even w/o the mountains. Even some downhill at a few of the ski hills. Peace

thats cool i live in brookfield. why do you say dont get a Y frame. granted i dont know much but i think they look cool and thats about all i know at this point. right now i was looking towrd trek becuase thats basically the only company i know of with a price range that works. i am thinking about something under 500 to start off. should i go with full suspension or hardtail and what type of frame would you recommend? also where would be some cool places to go in wisconsin?

PERMANENT MENTAL HOLIDAY

Well, it really does depend on where you will be riding. Planning on doing any racing? There is one very awesome place to ride in Milwaukee. I don't remember the name of the park, but it is kinda near the art museum. You HAVE to ride in a group though cause it's not the best area. Some really techy and awesome riding. We call it Yodas. There is also the dirt half pipe there, which is pretty crazy. Do you climb at Adventure Rock? I've seen someone else down there with Pe's on a rack before.

no i dont but i live close to the place. perty much for now i am just gonna be ridng dirt trails with my friends. i wanta get into it more for cross training for skiing. not planning on doing any racing or anything. i mostly just wanta do some trail riding through woods with some steep inclines and stuff. and if i can find cliffs/rocks to jump off of too. Any recommendations as to what to look into or stay away from

dude if your looking for a Dual suspension get a used specialized Big Hit 01 or newer they have a better design or get a used norco like an Aline. I like to go big so I have a huge bike Demo 9 and monster t but thats for 15+ foot drops. Or you can get a nice hardtail frame totaly bombproff Brooklyn Machien works they are really nice. Or evil imperial

First off, If you are just getting into mt biking and dont have at least 1500 for a decent entry level xc mt bike, get a hardtail. If you cheap out on a full suspension bike you will hate yourself. They tend to be very heavy and bob horribly when you peddle which slow you down a lot. I have a built up 03 Trek Fuel 90 frameset which is a great inexpensive full suspension bike. If you look around you may be able to get one for less then a grand because they changed up the fuel line this year. The new fuels are supposed to be awsome and will be a good xc bike. IF you like TREK bikes and want a hardtail, I would try to get at least a 6700. Do not cheap out on a bike because you will end up replacing a lot of the components. I live in Winona, MN and ride all over WI and MN. There are a lot of great trails. If you have any XC mt bike questions PM me and i'll give you a hand.
