Mount holes

Was getting skis remounted yesterday and the shop tech asked how long the holes had been open. Why would this be important?

When you remount bindings, the original holes get filled with glue and a plastic plug. This is to keep moisture out of the core of your ski, which would cause rotting and eventually a binding rip out. If they've been open while skied on, odds are moisture may have got in.

Yeah echoing what precious poster said - maybe something was suspect. It’s an odd question though unless you have visibly open holes with no plugs

That’s probably what it was- I had just taken the old bindings off a week before
