Most Inovative Skier Of Our Time?

It's all in the title. Who do you think is pushing the skiing game and doing stuff no one has done before them? I'd have to say The Bunch are the biggest inovaters of our generation, but who do you think is changing the face of skiing as we know it?

candide, delorme, real skifi guys, vinnie gagnier just to name a few. all these guys have shaped the style of skiing in their own way, and we all recognise them by a single look at them.

I dont know man. No other group of guys have such individual styles and I honestly believe that they're the biggest innovaters.

They don't do anything innovative, they just so shit people have been doing for years but ridiculously cleanly
 
Andy Parry- once all the original tricks were named etc it was only to be expected that people add another spin/flip but to come up with all the Hippie/Gypsy killers is a complete paradigm shift
 
The Bunch is great, they really change how skiing is looked at in our generation, also Real Skifi has done some amazing work

Seriously, innovated equipment, attitudes and the sport! Innovative reaches so much further than having unique style.
 
Define 'our time'.

I would say the top three most innovative skiers in the past 10-15 years would include:

Eric Pollard - brought a whole new style of pow skiing and constant pow ski development. I'm not sure rockered twins would be as big as they are without the influence of Pollard, Pep and Mahre.

Garrett Russell - I don't think anyone else looks at the mountain like he does

Jon Olsson - I don' think anyone has brought as much innovation to the actual design of modern comp/park jumps as he did. He had a huge part in making sure jumps were massive, but still safe.

Honourable mentions (mostly because I have a tough time differentiating between innovative and influencial)

McConkey (I would say more innovative back back in the 90's/early 00')

Hands down. He pioneered fat rockered pow skis, created a new skiing discipline, and took backcountry skiing and mountaineering to a whole new level. On top of all that, the guy was hilarious and did it all for love of the sport. Shane was and always will be the man.
 
Candide and Sammy C probably, but there are so many skiers out there doing crazy shit and saying that only one of them is the most innovative is pretty unfair to the rest.

Park- New Canadian Airforce, Candide Thovex, Eric Pollard

Big Mountian- Shane McConkey, Seth Morrison (Seth's segment from ski movie 3 has stood the test of time for over a decade. If he didn't influence the way you look at a mountain then you are probably doing it wrong!)

Honorable mentions: Tanner Hall/Jon Olson/Mike Wilson and Corey Vanular

Didn't Vanular stomp the first ever pretzel? surprised he isn't getting more props on NS
 
Casabon without a doubt, the dude is a creative genius on the sticks, he's not my favorite skier, nor I'm a big fanboy, but he is undeniably a skiing artist, just look at him when he shreds, hes a mad scientist in a trance.

not hate, but the guys killing it today aren't the guys who shaped it into what it is today i think they're shaping the future rather. i think the guys who shaped it to what it is today is indeed wallisch, dumont, martini, wells and all the guys who id watch as a kid
 
When I think of innovative, I think of creative. The guys that really stick out to me are the ones who really think outside the box and come up with new ways to do shit that no one else has thought of.

1. The Traveling Circus Crew / Andy Parry

2. Phil Casabon, so much next level shit in Keynote Skier

3. Real Skifi team. Those guys just come up with the most random shit
 
i don't get why the only person who said TWall has a negative rating or w/e.

Is TWall the most innovative skier of our time? Maybe. I dunno. Prob not, but who is to decide that, its too subjective - each skier listed brings something, although some more than others.

Im probably fucked in the head, but TWall was blowing up NS in a big way right around the time I was finishing HS. He was that perfect combination of baggy outerwear, clean style, and innovation while still being relatively new to the scene, underground. Besides maybe CVan, he was NS's first kid that went from blue name user to top tier pro. That was cool for me to see. And it seemed like he did it on his own terms.

It has to be TWall, Tanner, or Candide for me (disclaimer: Shane and Seth were just a tad before my time IMO)
 
I think the bunch is in the middle of inovation. They i dont think have made a big impact yet but will soon. I think they bring the fun back into skiing. Finess was one of my favorite films.... why? It made skiing look fun. The vibe was not about fun laughing style but there tricks and style made me stoked to ski. It made me want to ski like them in a way. It made me want to go out and ski like how i want to ski and how i see things. I think The Bunch stands for individuality and the simple joy of skiing. It is very refreshing to see something i can relate to.

Just my opinion. I dont think they are the best skiers or have changed the sport the most. But what i think they stand for is something desperately needed in skiing. You dont need to do the best tricks... You just need to do things how you see them.
 
Pollard

His approach to freeride out of bounds is so unlike any other rider. To draw innovation from surfing is probably the most wicked thing you can do on sticks. He keeps it real AF too, how many people do you know who still put switch skiing in their seggys jsut for switch skiing's sake?

Very cool to see a bunch of past and present Orage riders named in this thread. With that being said, it's impossible to name one innovator without naming another twenty... and that's just one of the many reasons why skiing is so awesome.

Innovation through Style, since 1989.
