More Rail Stuff :: Metal

Thanks for all the connector help below. I've decided that it's all useless :). Just kidding, but after someone pointed out that a 15' rail would fit on a car, I decided to just build it all in one piece.

Now I need to figure out what kind of metal to use. I thought all park rails were built out of 'hardened' steel. But after calling a bunch of steel distributers here in SLC I learned that hardened steel doesn't come in pipe form.

So is it hardened steel? Like with an AR coating (for wear)? Or will regular steel (grade 50) work?

Park monkeys -- speak up!

Thanks,

J

just go 2 home depot and buy a steel pipe like a galvanized one thats what we used to build one of our 20 footers

yeah man it's all about galvanized steel

Steel is pretty much the only thing to use, other matals will work but they either a)wont weld well b)are too soft to slide on or c)arent strong enough

can you but it flat or is it usually in pipe form?

yes... and i sugest you put it on legs... do you know which style your doing... you could either have the one bar down and flat base to bury in the snow. Or you could have two bars mounted saw horse style... and they just stick right into the snow.

or just single pipes straight down into concrete holes in the ground holds up alot better, but thats only if u want more of a pernament sset up
