Moped problem

Since its summer I would give this a shot.

My 50cc two stroke moped just recently has no torque. By this I mean it starts up fine and idles ok. And when it is on a kick stand with the wheel in the air it can accelerate just fine. But when i put it down and sit on it and try to accelerate it will rev very high then the engine will just cut out. Anybody good with bikes?

make, model?

guarantee you if you search your problem on mopedarmy there's gonna be a thread about it. it shouldn't be revving up without accelarating, unless your clutch isn't engaging properly. my guess would be a worn clutch.

this times a million- If it is revving pretty freely but not accelerating that is clutch every time. It spins fine in the air since the wheel has no resistance against it. As soon as you plop your ass on it it is just roasting the clutch.

Time for a new clutch hombre- which on a moped should be a cheap and easy fix.

Anyone who hates on mopeds has never owned one, I rode one to class everyday in the fall and most days in the spring, its just a slower motorcycle that you dont have to register or get a license to use.

That being said, has to be something with your carb, either too much/not enough gas and/or too much air/not enough air. If its bogging down hard, its probably getting too much gas. You either need to adjust the air screw or throttle screw and if neither of those help you might need a different jet.

Has the moped worked recently? hit me up on fb we'll chat more

and if this is the case, these guys are right, missed this post/didnt realize it just cut out vs bogged down

also what kind of 'peds you guys riding?

and checking out a harley m-65 sunday morning!

I have a '07 tomos sprint with biturbo and a 65mm kit and a large back sprocket. Shit tows my fat ass up huge steep hills its great. Only tops out at about 35 because of the gearing but with a smaller sprocket it goes 40+.

It was all uphill to my campus so the kit + high gear was so necessary. Still wanna buy a carb with larger intake and maybe a new pipe (mine sounds very rusted out) but I don't ride it enough/don't have an extra $300 to spend on my ped ha

I HAVE A LEGITIMATE ANSWER

The timing is probably off, really easy to do yourself and even easier to have it done. Takes like 5 minutes.. Costs like 20 bucks.

nahh, timing being off wouldn't cause revs to surge, timing would cause it to run rich/missfire/feel underpowered but still accelerate/backfire/die

Didnt have the time, money, will power, or knowledge. Sold it for a little less then i got it for and got a summer of riding out of it
