Montezuma basin?

Not talking about Montezuma bowl, but the actual backcountry area right past Montezuma (town).

I haven't been up there and I am just generally wondering if there is any snow left and if there is it subject to wet slides/what direction does the slope face?

(this)

We're looking at fairly small size ridges (such as 1:12) not any thing steeper/bigger (such as anything earlier/later in vid), but I do realize that the rocks heating up this time of year makes wet slides a problem pretty much anywhere. So have any you guys been up there this year, know the area well, or have an opinion on this? thanks.

I've seen a few TR's on tgr from the basin area. it's been looking a lot less prone to slides than most areas so I've seen. with all the snow melting so fast lately I bet you could even drive most of the way up to it as long as you have a jeep or something.

To clarify: Unless I'm mistaken, that video you posted the link to is for the Montezuma Basin outside of Telluride, not the one in northern Colorado.Hope that helps a bit.

Last time I was back there (years ago), there was a jump built over a mine, and sketchy cabins in the woods.

so which are you curious about? I figured the one behind a basin considering there is a "town" of montezuma below it.

Pretty sure he is talking about the BC zone south of the town of Montezuma up Deer Creek (still relatively close to Abay of course).

I'd love to hear about any beta too. Wondering if there is still enough snow to get the sled up there, ie: are there any stream crossing that are melted out, etc.

When I was there years ago, there was a bunch of stream crossings that I would assume are mostly melted out by now....

^^^Thanks.

Skied Torreys today and looked over at the Montezuma Basin zone, there is definitely still snow over there, and lines that go, but from that distance I couldn't really tell if some of the skinnier lines are in. Totally meant to take a picture of it, then spaced it. O well...

Definitely fun, skied the Dead Dog Couloir. I'll put some pics and a report on conditions in the BC Conditions/Stoke Thread in a bit.

^Damnit, I really wish I had a friend here who was into BC. All my BC friends moved away and I have none left in Fort Collins.

Lets ski this spring, I feel like we've talked about it a couple times over the years, but its never actually happened. I'm planning on moving back from CB to the boulder area until I can find a job. I'll hit you up the next time I'm thinking about heading out.
