Hey, its been a while since I've posted on NS, but I'm starting to apply for college (will start next fall) and MSU is at the top of my list. I got in, which is super sweet, but I'm still counting on some kind of scholarship to cover out of state costs and then some. I'm also planning to apply to some others, like UM missoula, OSU, Western washington, western state, etc. I still have no idea what my major is going to be... so that's issue number two.

What's the most recent opinion? Just trying to get somewhere chill in the Northwest within decent access of skiing/hiking/fun stuff. I would love to be in Oregon but all the major colleges are pretty far from skiing. Curious to see if MSU truly is the best or if I'm missing another opportunity. Thanks for the help.

UM in Missoula is cool. My little brother went there and the town is nice. Typical mountain vibes. For skiing it's alright. The snowbowl is 15 minutes outside but nothing spectacular. Big sky and bridger are at the other end of state. Missoula is crazy expensive but nonetheless more than other places. IDK, I've spent a lot of time in Missoula and cool.

Reno is an alright place. Havnt been there in a few years but you are 30 minutes scoot to the north shore where to have a shit ton of options of where you want ski. Mt rose, squaw, sugarbowl and a few more.

More info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For sure.

Tuition in general is pretty cheap. Cheaper than MSU or the U....WUE just got a little harder to get I think, but it still isnt particularly hard....especially when compared to other universities.

The ski community is solid here. An unbelievable amount of resorts tbh. Squaw, Alpine meadows, Mt. Rose, Kirkwood, Sugar Bowl, and plenty more. Squaw, Alpine, and Mammoth are all on the same pass next year....which is pretty crazy to think about....and its gunna be crazy to ski. Did I mention you can ski till june most years?

Freeride team is a solid group. We compete in the collegiate FWQ which is really fun. However competing isnt required and we all just love to shred as much as possible. Grillouts in the squaw parking lot are a must during the spring. Beer, palisades laps, park laps, burgers, repeat.

Plus, you live 30-40 minutes from lake Tahoe which is just insane. Great hiking, climbing, swimming, or anything you want to do. Reno has a solid nightlife as well.....and there is much less to do than just ski unlike some universities.

If you have any specific questions I would love to answer them! I have just kinda been rambling lol.

Westminster in SLC. Small private school but just 30 minutes away from skiing and i think Colby Stevenson goes there
