KUSA - Heavy mountain snow and wet, wind-blown snow will cover most of the state, including Denver, the Front Range and northeastern plains, starting on Wednesday.
Tuesday's weather was mild across the state, but changes will start as early as Wednesday morning.
A WINTER STORM WARNING will be in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday for the southern San Juans and La Garita mountains. A total snowfall of 1 to 2 feet is possible with this storm.
WINTER STORM WATCHES will be in effect for Wednesday night through Thursday for the rest of Colorado except for the Sangre de Cristos and southeastern plains.
Most mountain areas are expecting 1 to 2 feet of new snowfall, including the mountains and foothills along the Front Range. Lower elevations, including the metro area, will see between 3 to 8 inches of total snowfall with some melting of the snow as it falls.
WINTER STORM WATCHES are also in effect for western Nebraska and southeastern Wyoming for Wednesday night and Thursday.
During the storm winds up to 70 mph are possible over the mountain passes. On the plains sustained winds will be from 20 to 40 mph.
