Momentum ski camp for senior trip?

So I'm a senior in high school right now, and for a graduation present/trip I want go to Momentum ski camp this summer but am debating if that's a good idea or not. The camp is around $1700, which obviously would have to be payed for mostly by me because I don't think graduation gifts will be even close to that at all.

Well, I was pretty set on mustering up the courage to drop that much money and hope for the best when it comes to grad money, and working over the summer, but am now thinking (Due to my parents telling me that isn't smart) if its worth it to drop that type of money on camp. It would technically be more responsible to save that money and spend it on things I need (Laptop for college, savings for emergencies and gas) but I just want to see peoples opinions on spending a bunch of money to go to a ski camp (specifically Momentum)

TLDR: Do I pull the trigger and go to a summer camp with my saved up money, or do I try and act responsible and spend that money on school stuff for college next year and save the rest?

summer camps are pretty expensive, if I were you I would look into getting a job at one and then youll make money and be able to do a little bit of skiing

Tough decision!

You only are a kid once in your life, and this'l probably be the best week of your life....

However, the much needed expenses of college are nothing to look away from....

If I were you, i'd say go to ski camp. Have to best time of your life, do something you'l never get to do again, that's what life is about, doing cool stuff.

might be your last chance to do something like a camp. What does skiing mean to you? If you think itll be a life experience and that youll put the money to good use then I say go for it! It is a tough decision

camp at hood for a month. $900 for pass, $200 for food (or less), $100 for gas. save $500 for bonus items or maybe like college or something

I definantly feel like id spend more than $200 for a months worth of food

you dont live the dirtbag diet then. im talking stuff ramen and pb&j. obviously you could spend more if you want to eat normal meals but its not necessary.

I mean at a certain point its a personal decision obviously.... depends what you want out of life.

I paid for summer camp on my own three years in a row when I first got started at this whole freeskiing stuff. Wanted to be a pro and progress like crazy. The amount of progression you will get from going to a proper summer camp it unmatched by basically anything else out there.

Coaches are amazing, snow is soft as hell and the vibe is mind blowing. Sure sometimes you hit a span of bad weather, but that's a risk any time you go skiing.

As well, the relationships I formed at ski camp were essentially one of the most important parts of the building blocks for my eventual ski career. I ended up volunteering for three years in a row after being a camper, and then working there for three more until the camp shut down. I credit my time at High North Ski Camp for essentially everything I am today.

So again - its fucking rad but I guess it depends on what your personal priorities are.

be a responsible skier, buy a cheap tent, find a friend, camp at hood.

This! Not worth the 1700 when you can have just as much fun camping with some buddies for however long you want

Hey there!

Stoked to hear you are considering coming to Momentum. Here are a few facts to consider about our camp before making your decision:

Snow:

We have plenty of snow on the glacier to run the camps as usual and there is more than enough snow to build our world-class summer park. In fact, when Whistler Blackcomb did a snow depth check, they reported that the current levels are actually higher than last year at this time, now with the recent snowfall they are even higher. What people tend to forget is that when it’s raining down in the valley or lower on the mountain (which unfortunately has been happening quite a bit this season), that precipitation is actually snow up on the glacier due to its elevation. It’s continually snowing all winter long up top, which accumulates in the bowl where our lanes are located on the Horstman Glacier. Two days ago we did some digging on our lane to see how much snow there was and

here's what we found.

Exchange Rate:

As a result of recent economic changes, the US dollar is currently 25% stronger than the Canadian dollar (1 US dollar = 1.25 Canadian). As a result, Americans save almost $500 on the price of camp alone, making Momentum one of the cheapest camps available. What is normally $2270 CDN per session, is currently $1816 USD at today’s exchange rate. Now camp is not only much more affordable for Americans, it’s the best deal going and offers luxury accommodation and meals. Sign up now while the US dollar is strong!

Our Key Strengths:

1. COACHES: We have an unmatched line-up of pro coaches including Olympians, World Cup and X Games champions - who don’t just ride the park, but work with you all day, including video review each night. You get to ski with a different coach every day so you can benefit from all of their great knowledge and experience. They are there to make you a better skier!

2. PARK: Largest and most diverse ski-only park - 6 lanes (our nearest competitor is only 3 lanes) and includes: two 50ft x 50ft airbags, moguls, 22 foot double-sided quarter pipe for pipe training and 3 different slopestyle lanes: S, M, L offering a diversity of jumps and rails for all levels of skiers to safely learn and progress. Our park is machine groomed nightly making it perfect every single day.

3. SKI TIME: Fastest lap times by far on our private T-bar (no public allowed) - means more than enough mileage every day.

4. THE JUMP: Largest jump on the glacier – a safe, step-up style jump that allows for maximum progression.

5. ACTIVITIES: Choice of different activities after skiing, including: water ramping, multiple trampoline facilities, skate park, paintball, zip-lining, climbing wall, mountain biking, soccer, sailing, supping, golf and much more!

6. HOTEL: Deluxe hotel in the center of Whistler village (with pool, jacuzzi, sauna), which means no bussing.

7. MEALS: Dinners at a different Whistler restaurant each night, with breakfast and lunch served on hill at mountain restaurants.

8. SESSIONS: Most of our sessions are 9 days (not 8), including 6 days on snow and a day off in the middle to rest and experience more of what Whistler has to offer.

9. WHISTLER: The #1 Ski resort in North America and is even better in the summer!

Here is one of our session edits from last summer to add some color to all these words.
