MITTERSILL UPDATE...

We’ll open and manage that terrain area this year as a lift-accessed

backcountry portion of Cannon’s terrain (via the Tramway and Cannonball

Quad).

The trail crew has done some thinning and brush cutting for ease of

access, but nothing to change the culture or skiing & riding

experience over there. With no snowmaking, limited grooming, very

limited patrolling and extensive rescue time, the area will carry a

designation of “Extra Hazardous.”

We’ll run a weekend/holiday shuttle service from the base of Mittersill to Peabody/Notchview.

We plan to have the new Mittersill Double Chair installed and operational by mid-late December 2

Is anyone else disappointed with this. It;s going to destroy the backcountry atmosphere over at mittersill. It is also going to bring in a bunch of narbos traking all the powder. Fuck this

I havnt skied there in about 8 years but that blows. some good legit backcountry there now open to everyone with a trail map

Ski Jay. Until the lifts roll over there it won't be anymore banged up than it gets now. Its a little blurry but I think this was from the Barrons Run in 1999. Not sure. It Might even be from jay but pretty sure it is Mittersill. It looks just like any inbounds run. I was there a couple times last year and a lot of people hike the saddle but I don't think anymore will than already do. As far as when it becomes lift served as long as they don't widen the trails too much and put anything high speed over there(I think they can only put up a fixed double) it should keep some of its pristine characteristics.

as someone who grew up skiing cannon for eons (well lke 15 years) im rteally bummed. a place that was, well despite being obvious, a relative secret, is now openied to gibronis and masshole joeys to explore. such a bummer that such a great place with decent snow, epic on a deep day, is now open to anyone who knows where it is. AND patrolled by ski patrol. AND shuttled back by shuttles.

a pure travesty. a tragedy. truly saddened man. sad.

the amount of good skiing over there is endless. Not to mention the snow is great over there weeks after a storm. But that looks like it's coming to an end

yea dude i agree with you i have skied cannon for years and i always loved the experience of mittersill runs after a sick storm at cannon and re-opening lifts on mittersill sounds like an awful idea to me as well...although i will ski it more but so will everyone else so yea sounds lame to me....

As a kid that lives in Franconia and skis Cannon around 100 days a year. Iam so disgusted with what they have done it makes me want to puke.
