Missing 2 Seasons In A Row

Damn well I came to the unfortunate conclusion that I am gonna miss my second season in a row. Last year I broke my arm on my 2nd day on the mountain requiring season ending surgery and this year I am 3 months removed from surgery for a torn tendon in my ankle but just not feeling strong enough to ski. I skied about 2 runs yesterday before my ankle started hurting like a mfer so just called it quits.

Technically I can hit an air bag but Blue Mountain's air bag sucks balls this year so I think I'm just gonna do the smart thing and heal up, keep doing PT and get myself ready to hit it hard next year.

Probs gonna hit up Ohio Dreams this summer to hit their water ramps and rail setup. Ah well fuck it. Time heals all wounds or some emo shit like that.

Jesus dude, if you're worried about even getting on the slopes I would stay out of the park and DEF wouldn't even touch an airbag. Keep that shit on the ground.

IF you still can't get out maybe wait a few more weeks.

Be safe out there. You want stuff to hit right. One of the things I've realized recently is that shredding groomers is more fun than sitting at home.

CHeck with your doctor, see what he says. Definitely do all your pt.

Be careful and good luck. Hopefully you can get out on the slopes even if it's just groomers and filming in the park.

Did you do some PT or any exercise to strengthen your ankle? might be worth it to try some.

Yah I've been doing PT 3x a week for 2 hours at a time hoping I could speed up the healing process. The normal recovery time takes 6-8 months and I'm trying to ski after 3 so it just hasn't been long enough.

@abortionator - yah man i was just cruising around groomers practicing carving switch it was real mellow. the actual skiing didn't hurt so much but after the fact, sitting on the lift, etc. is when it would start throbbing

Word dude. Definitely talk to your physical therapist and see what they have to say.

I def get wanting to get back as soon as possible just make sure you're doing it safely. If they say it's not going to cause any harm to the recovery and just hurt maybe keep some ibuprofen gels in your bag, even your pocket for if things get sore. Maybe take it slow and do a few runs over a whole day, give yourself some recovery time.

Hope things heal up fast man. I haven't been healthy for a while. I made it through almost all of last season, and making it through this season but taking it real easy. I only got the first 2 weeks if even of the 11/12 season then got out closing weekend and hurt myself again, then was out till the last 3 weeks. of the next season. Pretty much lost all my confidence in that period. At the same time have found a new love just for being on the hill even really mellow cruising and some big old turns on them groomers.

Also have been out there wayyyyy before I was supposed to on injuries years earlier that never healed right. My back is pretty fucked because I didn't listen and rushed it. I lucked out that it doesn't hurt as bad as some of my friends most of the time and I can still work and ride pretty consistently.

Wrote a lot like normal but just wanted to say I feel you It's a tough spot when it's something you love. You want to get healthy but staying off the hill is tough, sometimes almost impossible.

Definitely talk to your physical therapists, doctors, whoever and see what they think and try and make a plan that'll work for you.

Good luck man. Nobody likes being out for a season, being out for 2 seasons feels like a lifetime. Stay safe and heal up fast bro

sucks man good luck, ive been out for two years as well. well actually i went one day agiainst doctors orders last year. but skiing with a neck brace isnt that fun anyway...

Just curious what u think is wrong with the airbag this year? They changed where they put it but everything else looks the same to me

We decided to move to Nebraska since my wife had a good career opportunity so yeah there is that. Then before I could start planning trips she got preggo and now I have a little girl so yeah. Pretty much no skiing for me. I did take my daughter for a couple laps when she was six months old though. I wore her on my chest and went down a really mellow run on Christmas when visiting family near perfect north slopes. Small hill nothing crazy. It was rad can post pics if anyone wants to see she loved it.

The jump is too small. There is no in run - complete lack of speed. The air bag is HIGHER OFF THE GROUND than the actual jump meaning you have no air time to finish the trick. It's just poorly done. If Blue wants to know how to build an air bag they should take notes from Big Boulder. They had the sickest air bag I've ever seen.

Ohio Dreams? You gon die bruh. Trampolines hate you hahaha.

Dude seriously. I'm gonna strap bubble wrap to my boots and tell them it's doctor's orders that I wear ankle support while jumping on the trampoline.

Fuck yah. Made it out to the mountain yesterday planning to just casually cruise around and stay out of the park.

My ankle felt pretty strong so I immediately b-lined over to the park and after one run of scoping out the features I was sending backflips and 3's off the smaller jumps.

I definitely felt a little limited but this was great progress. Makes me feel like I'll be back to 100% by next season.

I missed that feeling of linking together clean hits on multiple features in a row. FUCK YAHHHH

OP, you probably don't get paid to ski. You are progressing for you, have to weigh risk/reward factor. If your pushing it for status and prestige, then you'll get what's coming.
