i know theres been a lot of posts about these, but im in the market for a camera. im planning on using it for mostly skating, maybe some skiing. 3 models i was interested in were the Samsung scd80, the panasonic pvdv102, and the canon zr40. does anyone half personal experience with these and whats my best buy for the $500-700 USD range?

hey from personal experience and general knowledge, i'd stick with sony or canon.

you can get a good (good in relative terms to your price range) camera from sony and canon in the range you're looking for.

sony and canon are the 2 more respected brands in digital video so id stick with one of the two

yeah definitely either get a canon or sony. its easy to use and better quality for the price. u can get a decent camera for around that price... i wouldn't bother with the samsung or panasonic.

any fate questions or orders, let me know.

if u can go for an older series zr, aka zr20, the new zrs use 1/6 inch ccd, pretty crappy while the old ones used a 1/4 ccd, better quality picture

ive got a canon mv430i

it heaps mad, small, but not so small u'd feel like u would break it, its heaps easy to use and the kit it comes with to connect it to your comp is inicredibly easy and heaps mad

me: Have u heard of What Videos

you: what videos?

me:Yeah What Videos

you: what?

me:yeah What, thier mad videos

(by the way the videos i make are called 'What Videos')

i Have a gl1, my buddy has the vx2000 and 2 other buddies have JVCs. From what ive seen from the cameras is that sony has the best color, but thats my opinion.

dude I have a gl1 and the color is better then the vx2000. The Main difference is the sony has mad audio and decent video where the canon has mad video and just ok audio. For skiing and skating you need the optics because any recording of sound should be done off camera anyway.

no way dude... maybe in that one shot u saw it seemd that the gl1 had better pic quality but the vx has better picture quality by far... it has bigger chips (1/3 inch as opposed to 1/4 inch in the gl1) i hav a gl1 and woulda rather gotten a vx. it has better night time shooting to, a lower lux. but yeah it does hav better audio too.. oh well just wanted to say that, whatever.

ah i know what hes talking about, the canon mv430i is i think or one of the ZR models...when i was in China i saw them at a Canon store, its a ZR camera under a different name, so he must be from new zealand or somewhere where they get those cams

Fairygirl: Why must you be so damn good looking? Why?? lol

nipe: Thats right Diabhal, because we're skiers

ya the vx2000 has bigger chips as someone mentioned 2 posts up so it does have better picture quality. but it seems that, at least from seeing my frineds vx2000 and my gl1, that the vx2000 has more of a blue tint to everything. it also seems that his images are more crisp and sharp where as i can get mine more soft and shit with my gl1, i dunno if that makes sense, but hopefully u get me on that.

but i definatly notice, and other people have said so too, that the vx2000 has more of a bluer tint

f r e e r i d e z o n e d o t c o m

yes the vx definatly has a bluer tint to it, which can be fixed during editing. the picture is definatly sharperon the vx, it just depends what you like more the blue sharp tint on the vx or the warm soft tint on the gl1

well if you want to film with the sharpness centered thats fine, your choice but personlay I lower the ccd usage down and get shit that passes as 16mm in my art film contests I enter. Plus the gl1 will film in full frames where the vx won't. Ya full frames like without interlacing. but I'm sure all of you knew that already. That one point alone should sway you to get a gl1 over the vx.

-paul

yeah it is nice to actually be able to shoot non interlaced video. prins what exactly you mena by, 'i lowered the ccd usage'?

Skiing In New Jersey Sucks-Trust Me

on the gl1 in the settings you cna lower the csharp settings, That basicly is how hard the camera will work the ccd's, What they try to do first is crisp lines, so lowering that gives you nice soft edges life film and I think the colors get better along with it. Althought that isn't writen down as a side effect.

i have a jvc, its great. usually you can get good deals on camreas. i walked out of the store getting an 800$ one for 500$, their totally worth getting.

yeah im getting jvc soon cuase you get the most for your money...dont get the canon cause they are small ugly and noisy...

definatly stick with canon or sony.

for the most part, all other companys produce sub par DV cams.

Dv is the best kind to get, sony is most trusted id say

so i said to her 'look baby,i'm not saying your not beutifal, i'm just not sure my man in there wants to pay for it'
