i decided to test my jib crane for the first time. pretty happy with the result but i have a lot of work to do hahaha. and yeah color grading (first time i tried with magic bullet and warm preset).

the 4' crane you can find on www.glideshot.com for like 160$. really worth it imo.

of and another question. when the guy is grinding, wtf is going on with the crappy railings behind him..... looks like crap ( canon t3i, 720p 60fps)

that was pretty sick man. colors were a little too warm for my taste, everything has that yellow tint.. but i liked the crane shots. i plan on buying that same crane in the next couple months.

I agree the colors where too warm for me. Also because i had glare from my screen and the colors being so bright it made it kind of hard to watch. But on a side note it was a good first try but also work on varying your jib shots to make things more interesting.

with looks, I try and stick to only the film stock presets. Most of the looks presets are just useless in any situation, unless you want to ridiculously blow your whites or make everything aqua.

Pretty cool. I'm thinking of picking up that jib crane sometime in the future.

Are you using an external monitor, or are you able to see the screen well enough on the end of the crane?

no im not using an external monitor. im using the flip screen from my t3i and i can't really see in daylight so im standing next to it.

When you're using looks, there is no need to just take a preset and go with it. You have a bunch of tools at your disposal, so you can try to get the colors you want after modifying the preset.

As for the crazy railings, welcome to the world of DSLRS! That is called moiré.

fuck yeah seb, looks real sick buddy.

as most people said, colors were too warm for sure. i don't even use presets anymore, but when i used to use them, i would apply it then modify it HEAVILY to make it fit the clip.

IMO, the longer the jib the better. short jibs are great and all, but if you get one thats longer you can get more drastic shots. only downfall is transportation

have you used them before? I have a 6 foot one (maybe 5, i'll double check) and i always wish I had a bit more length to it (twss)

DSLR noob checking in, Where in the world is the examples of aliasing and moiring? I have never experienced either or rolling shutter

Haha I saw that a little bit ago. Kinda cool, except it doesn't fix the slew of video problems that come with DSLRs. Plus it doesn't work with wide angles which sucks.

for a filmmaker it would be worth it to loose the sharpness, if it was only on when there was aliasing present, which honestly is seldom

Thats what I initially thought. But lately I've gotten fairly proficient at pulling focus and I always keep my fstop really low so that everything is in focus; it's a moiré nightmare.
