Hey all,

Midwest Open is this Saturday, the 5th. There will be a big air comp during the day and a rail jam event in the evening. Nordica is hooking you guys up again this year.... along with other main sponsors: Kombi, Laacke and Joys, and Uvex. Judges will be comprised of Alex Applegate (Liberty and First Drop Athlete... and the worlds best ski bum), Andy Harris (use to ski in Mammoth and Tahoe with the likes of Pep Fujas, B Devine, etc.), and one of our Park Crew members.

The rail jam will be set up similar to past years in the base area. We will setup 4+ features and it will be judged on overall impression.

The Big Air event will also be hosted in the same location as last year. I advocated that we should try a different location for the jumps this year, but ultimately it was decided that we would make what we have work. We have about double the amount of snow in the North Park as we did last year so I am optimistic it will be better than last year. We are going to knock down the first shelf that is currently in the North Park and push some of it up the drop in to make that bigger and we will push the rest of it downhill to build the MWO jumps. We are shooting for a 35 ft. jump and a 45 ft jump with a landing longer than last years. The weather doesn't look terribly warm this week... nothing like last years summer temperatures.

Please register online before the competition, as it makes things easier on us and you. Only the first 100 competitors will receive jerseys to keep this year and the rest will wear bibs that will be returned at the end of the day. There are still plenty of slots open, so if even if you don't have much competition experience you should come out and join us. Midwest open is always has the most positive vibe of any competition and we welcome everyone. It is an OPEN competition, so don't be afraid to sign up.

HELMETS AND LIFT TICKETS ARE REQUIRED THE DAY OF THE COMPETITION! ALSO IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YOU MUST: A) Print out the competition waiver (http://cascademountain.com/pdfs/competition_release_1011.pdf) and have it signed; or B) Have a parent/guardian present to sign the form at the time of registration... NO EXCEPTIONS!

Also, Hank_Hill... a.k.a. Jimmy Robinson... a.k.a. HEAVYhead... will be providing fresh beats to shred to all day long. Dubstep, yes please.

Future.... if its going to be raining all day can the groomer to come up and groom the jump and landing before practice friday?? It would really put a damper on things if it gets iced over.

matt_h, no cash prizes. but nordica hooks us up pretty fat every year... winners get hooked up with next seasons gear in the fall. along with a lot of prizes from other companies. To bigairfrank, that is a possibility... i will find out more when i get up there after class today and let you know. Jump practice will start at 9 on Saturday..

as if right now the lacbdings are pretty soft, so unless it freezes in the next 20 minutes i dont see us grooming it.
