Mid jump awareness and comfortability

i’m not much of a park skier, but i have been wanting to learn bigger tricks on bigger jumps. my issue though is that whenever i go on the big jumps, i get scared shitless when i’m in the air and all my focus is on landing properly so as to not crash. what i have noticed though is that the feeling is there even when i straight air small jumps, but whenever i throw a 3 on a small jump the fear is non existent, it’s like my mind has something else to focus on and the confidence in knowing i can land the trick sort of makes the fear go away.

i don’t know if that’s helpful at all in giving me advice but any help is appreciated. do i just need to hit jumps more to get more comfortable?

Yes, park skiing is an extremely repetition based sport. You have to work up the confidence by doing it many times

what was that ublome? For some reason I can't see what you've said? Strange

btw guys you can block this guy on his profile so that his gutter trash won't even show up in your feeds

honestly, park is just that way. You'd be shocked how many times people have done the same trick over and over trying to get it comfortable enough to start adding their own style/tweaks to it. The must jumps you hit the more comfortable.

The reason yoi feel good doing a 3 on the small jump is that it's in your comfort zone. Hut jumps more regularly, hit bigger junps, work your way up slowly doing 3s on increasingly bigger jumps.

The more you hit stuff the mlre you gain that feel.

Sometimes even in the same day. Csn start off hitting rails or jumps feeling super sketch and by mid day feel the steez.

Both getting the reps in and also pushing yourself(but safely). You dont need to go from a 15' to a 65'.

Take it slow. But let's say you worked up to a 35 or 40 being able to straight air feeling pretty smooth. Now that 15-20' jump feels small. That 360 on there feels more in your wheelhouse.

It's all relative.

Jump lines can be a great place for prpgression if there's a good one at your local or near enough. Sometimes a jumpline has bigger jumps than you're hitting or spinning. Sometimes jist hitting one and 2. Then eventuslly youve got them dialed af you hit 3. Now 3 feels decent you start spinning 1. Then maybe you spin 2.

Just small progressions.

As long as you're skiing and trying stuff you're getting better. You don't need to go from a 10' jump to a 70' jump, or a 180 to a triple 14. But just keep it going.

Feel more comfy? Style it out more. Carve it. Get a better grab. Start trying 5s.

Idk just keep skiing. You got this!!

great response. Carving off jumps will get you more comfortable with jumps for sure.

I've always thought doing tricks off big jumps are scarier, but also it makes the airtime feel like so much less and once you've landed, it also feels so rewarding that the fear gets overpowered by the stoke

Trampoline to work on air awareness. Skateboard to work on the feeling of spinning on/jumping on, sliding and then spinning out/jumping off while moving

For me all it took was practice and repetition. You may think you are putting in the work but force yourself to get massive air time more often and eventually it will all come together. Also as stupid as it may sound getting a super strong core helps with stability and controlling ur body overall.

Learn to have a go to straight air trick like a shifty. If I am straight airing a jump my body automatically does a shifty.

Like others said repitition is key, just shifty off wverythibg

Shifty axis and ski control does help a lot!

this could be happening becuase on a three you are popping up, and on the straight air you are not.

the pop helps me feel like im more in control rather than just letting the jump take me where it wants.

having someone to follow also helps. the frame of reference speed seems smaller if someone is in front of you.

just make sure they know you are following and that they arent doing a big trick. they go left and you go right.

When ppl ask me this on the lift I tell them this. Always do a grab in the air. Any grab, you’ll feel more stable, and like you said it will occupy your mind from flailing ur arms about.

If it helps at first, grab anywhere that feels most comfortable and figure out what grab u did after. But yeah repetition, don’t be afraid to look like a gaper, all the best luck to you. Jumps are addicting and I hope you catch the bug too !!
