MFree 108 Vs Unleashed 108

Looking to add to the quiver. Daily driver is a volkl revolt 104 but looking for something stronger to charge a bit more on but still a twin etc. Would love better edge hold on hard pack. Also have a K2 marksman that’s an early season rock ski.

Live in Colorado so get some fresh snow. This will add as a charger/powder day type ski. Want to keep it between these two skis. I know the unleashed will be stronger/edge hold being it has a sheet of metal but worried it may be too grabby and not enough rocker. Also I hate to say it but the top sheets just suck and are super boring.

very interested in the mfree with the PU construction and dampness. Know some people on them and they all love them. Worry it may be too surfy for non pow days? And maybe not any better edge hold than the revolt.

thanks in advance!

Also wanted to add I got rid of my bentchetlers this year as they were one of my least favorite resort powder skis. With how good these 100-110 skis are now in the deep stuff I may be sticking to this width even as a max. Plus it makes the 6-8inch days feel a little deeper than the big boys do.

Not sure if you intend to use them in park at all, but I met a guy who completely blew out his sidewall and partially delamed a pair of unleashed within a week, that may aid your decision

Yikes, these won’t be seeing park use but that isn’t very encouraging either way haha

To be fair the guy was using them pretty hard, and they’re not really intended as a park ski so I’d imagine they’d hold up fine for on piste

Fair enough. I’m torn on the two, unleashes are super boring graphics (not a reason to not buy a ski) but it’s definitely is part of the decision. Hoping the mfree has similar charge ability to the unleashed

I have also done this. Was being sent a few pairs this season and went through about 4 since November. Last pair was lasted 4 days

To add to the unleased. That ski freakin rips all mountain, I wanted to keep a pair just to cruise the mountain outside of park but sadly I could never have one last enough to have a backup pair. To be fair I did ski park all day everyday

Don’t mean to add a ski to your process but have you looked at the wildcat/bibby?

Shit fuckin rips, kinda hated on it earlier this year but once I found it’s sweet spots it blast through crud like it’s nothing, but still has a pretty forward mount point compared to the MFree

Ive skied both...

The unleashed is far stiffer, and more damp. Ok edge hold, lacks a bit of energy/ fun-factor, but predictable

M-Free is pretty soft, and both the taper/sidecut profile and rocker make it less or a charge-able ski than the others in the same category. I also hate that is is ~$800 ski that is mostly a foam/PU core (the wood is almost added as an after thought, so they can say that it is a "hybrid" core)

I would really look at the Mana 3.0 as an option...

I have entertained them forsure more and more but I’m also a little tied to these two skis with a deal I have in them

Definitely enjoyed the mana 2.0 when I skied it but haven’t been in the 3.0 but assume I would like that also. I’m kindof stuck w these two skis since I have a deal on them and don’t want to pay retail haha

i had heard the m free was pretty damp and chargey from some folks especially compared to my current revolt which for me is pretty soft but super fun

If you want super damp and chargy go with the m-pro pro rider (aka m-pro 105), that ski is ridiculous

Did think about that but want a twin and not full on damp

If you’re locked into Nordica or Dynastar, consider the Unleashed 114. It has the least metal (as a % of the skis overall material, make-up), so it could prove more playful than the 108.

For those wondering what the cross-section of Dynastar skis’ Hybrid core looks like these days. This kind of construction only belongs in entry-level skis IMO…

Interesting… the PU part intrigues me but that is interesting. I do know a fair amount of people on the m free and all of them love it. I believe it has a rubber stomp pad or something underfoot?

Second the idea of the Mfree being a little more 'playful' of a chargy ski. I've ridden it when compared with Wrenegade 108's and found it to not quite plow through crud and charge as hard as the Wren's (which I ended up going with). I haven't really heard anyone that dislikes the Mfree, but if you're looking for a resort pow ski to go fast and charge all the time (which it doesn't sound like you are), there are better options I believe

Somewhat am looking for a playful but chargy pow ski but not really looking above 110 right now. I do have brand limitations with deals which is how I ended up is the debacle haha I do like the mfree has been talked about as surfy/playful but has some dampness and chargeability without being dead and more of an all out speed machine

I think you’ll love the mfree, almost pulled the trig on them.

I talk to tons of people on the lift who have them and only hear good things, and they rip as well on them

The Mfrees are absolutely epic. Quite a bullet proof ski. Just wish my boots were in better shape to give a full opinion on em. My boots are at about 150 days with almost no work done on them so I had to stop multiple times yesterday, but next season will be hype for em. When you go to jump though, you kinda have to ollie a tiny bit and be really committed or else the ski will feel as though it wont want to leave the ground. Easy to nail this down and once you do, the skis are super nice in the air. I think the dampening though is what inhibits newcomers. The skis carve like none other ive had in a 108. Hands were dragging the snow yesterday. I just gotta get new ski boots now haha.

Def what I am looking to hear! Really wish they offered a split in size between the 182 and 192 but think 182 will be a safer bet

Not to my knowledge... The black you see underfoot/ down the middle is more PU, with what looks to be a strip of titanal under the wood core. It is a generally well like ski/ series, just too soft for me and I think it would benefit from an all-wood core.

That’s what is was I believe it does have the metal underfoot. Really? Most people I’ve talked to love the idea of the PU it’s basically the same plastic as their 130 boots

better carving mfree 108 without being too serious

Hate to be that guy but I can’t stand those graphics haha but I’ve heard great things about the ski in itself. Rossis graphics are almost always poo imo

mfree 108 has shit bases, and is kinda a meh ski, could have been so awesome.

First one I have really had that has that much negative to say about them... sintered HD bases but overall everyone else I have talked to raves about them. What are some skis you do like similar?

CT 3.0, Prodigy 4.0, Mana 3.0, Season Pass would all be similar. I cant speak to the Revolt Revolt 114 or Bacon 114, those might be similar too.

ct 3.0 2021, blackops 118, bibby pro, bc 120, proto factory, reckoner 112/122 = yay

Sorry for reviving an old thread but does anyone know where the unleashed was mounted for the ns ski test? Looked like -3/-4 from true center.
